How to get to the evaporator sensor?

Hi,

My A/C diagnostic points to an open circuit (code 14) in the evaporator sensor circuit. Having removed the glove box, I can peer up underneath the dash and see the wires going to the top of the evaporator box, but I can barely see the connector and it looks impossible to get to. Does anyone have any tips? I'm thinking of just ripping out the wires in frustration and putting a resistor between them to just make the A/C work. At what temperature does the evaporator typically run at? I've got a temperature / resistance chart...
