Cause of yellowish headlights
Anyone know what the cause of the hazing on our headlihgts is due to? I just recently bought a brand new one off of ebay and man these headlights brand new are incredible, looks nicer than the brand new euro cars. What can i do to keep them from yellowing? Thanks

A couple of things Chris
First is ultravoilet (UV) degradation of the polycarbonate (plastic) used to mold the lens. This material is not inherently stable to the UV spectrum which attacks the base polymer chain causing a reduction in clarity and a color shift towards yellow. Most "clear" grades of polycarbonate are actually lightly tinted blue to overcome the slightly yellow shade of the polycarbonate from the reaction and production process.
Second is that the silicone hardcoat applied to the outer surface of the lens to increase the abrasion resistance and UV resistance, wears off and allows the lens to be pitted and abraded by sand and other contaminants when washing, driving, or otherwise rubbing the lens. In short, not much we can do to maintain the lenses other than not driving the car and keeping it out of the sun. Todd

thanks todd, that's great news in my case then. I haven't driven my svx out of the garage in almost a year, and it's always covered. So i guess iam safe for right now.
