brakes overhaull

hello people.
so now, we gonna overhaull and uprgade the SVX's braking.
i have buy vented, drilled, sloted discs, whit ceramic pads from R1 concept ( ebay seller, great deal, and very friendly! ) and goodridge avia lines.
oh, and dont forget buy DOT 4 brake fluid ( i have use ferrodo one. good parts are more apreciables )

ok lets begin!
lift up the car

now, lets space pads from discs
DO LIKE ME ONLY IF YOU CHANGE PADS AND DISCS!!!!
if you keep the disc, be sure do not damage it.

now lets unlock caliper.
unlock the 2 screw but remove only the lower one.
you can remove theses bolt to remove the sliders, clean it an re-grease it.
( thanks SVXRide for the complement )

and lift up the caliper.

now remove the pads:

as u can see, it's full.

so use someting to remove fluid from it ( plastic bottle cap is a nice choice )
and discard fluid!!!!

now compress the piston.
CARREFULL!!!! do it slowly and use your brain! dont damage the piston or the seal!

now remove 2 bolts from the caliper braket.

move the assy clear of the area.

Re: brakes overhaull

Why have you gone from a ventilated rear disc to a solid one? Is this not a backward step?

Re: brakes overhaull

nice write up! you might want to edit it to include the torque setting for the bolts and the fact that you should re-grease the slider bolts

because, it's US type rear disc and mine is an EU one.
i have done this pics, and after find it's not good, remove the disc to resend it, to have the good ventilated one.
now, all is alright!

nice find by the way!

i dont have the torque value.
i do torque as necessary. i'm mecanic so i have the habitual for that.

about the grease, yes i forgot to tell about.
that was so logic for me, i forgot to write it.

edit : corrected on the post about the re-greasing. thanks to you!

Re: brakes overhaull

Kia ora Naru,

Never before within this forum, has there been anything to equal your write ups.

Very special thanks and congratulations.

Sincerely, Trevor.

P.S. Do not worry about a little fine tuning to cover any queries which are put forward. You can easily edit your information and make additions. You have thought about just about everything and done especially well.

Re: brakes overhaull

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I'm going to be doing the brakes in the next few weeks (school time permitting) and this will come in super handy.

Couple questions: is changing the brake lines necessary? or optional depending on the condition they're in. What type of brake pads and rotors to use and what all tools are necessary? Also, how much brake fluid does the SVX take?

yes is optional. you change it depending the condition, or by uprgrade.
avia lines are more rigid, so the line dont "inflate" like rubber one.
the result is to have a more and precise pedal on the foot.
that is better too for hard braking, and heat protection.

i dont realy know about material, but if you use your car gentle, and never push it, stay in stock parts ( plain disc and stock pad, or better, carbon pads )
but if sometimes you push your car, buy some sloted or drilleds discs whit carbon or ceramic pads.

for me, it's ceramic pads. i'm realy satisfed by theses ^^
there is less than one liter of brake fluid.

apparently, EU.DM have vented rear disc. the caliper bracket is different too. ( more large )
it's seems only EU.DM have theses, probably because the crappy safety test to let a car being sold on the territory ....
