Re: What has 6 gears 425hp and 20in wheels?

I like the dodge better myself but I hear the Chevy has it in all the performance benchmarks. That being said if I was only going for a v6 I would be all over the Hyundai.

The dealer here has about 6 of them sitting on the lot and I have a feeling they won't be going any time soon in this economy.

Mike: make sure you get what you need from the dealer to get your sales tax refund for your taxes this year.

Tom: Why you make fun of Baja? it hauls SVX parts well

I like the black and yellow myself, but very nice car.

If I was looking for a "hey look at me" car, it'd be a Speed Yellow Cayman S. Blow those ugly Rust-angs into the weeds where they belong.

Still it is much better than 3700lbs and 230hp which was the real world weight of Dave's 92 SVX when we scaled it against the racer (which had at least a 1/2 tank more gas at the time.. There is a new mullet coupe close to work I drive past every day. Definately a decent looking retro vehicle but I still see it as nothing more than a retro vehicle as it isn't modern technology in a cheap fast package. More of a Plymouth PT that actually goes. Sure it will have some good initial sales but long run I'd much rather see something which actually modernizes the Camaro line. Just look at the Mustang sales to show where the Camaro will be in 3 years. Kids today don't even know what a Camaro or Mustang are since they don't where an H on the hood. Now a reintriduction of the Fiero might get some kids attention!

Nice looker btw Mike!

Re: What has 6 gears 425hp and 20in wheels?

Unlike the Mustang and Challenger, the Camaro has more modern tech. It has a 4.5 link indepedent rear. The car handles exstremely well. My parents have a 2004 Z06 and the performance, power and handling, are on par with it. I, also, reallized why it has 20in wheels. It is the only size that would fit over the Bembo brakes that come standard on the SS.

if they are the standard 4 piston brembos 18" would fit fine, but the car looks much much better with 20"S sti,evos,370s all use the same brembo package

are the wheels enkie's or bbs wheels anything light weight ?>

Just as a sidebar... the Mustang GT for 2011 is getting a 5.0 liter Coyote V8 with 415 horsepower.

But still an ox-cart rear suspension...

I used to be a mustang freak, until I learned what other cars were capable of.

Now I wish there were a new affordable coupe that would be truly modern, and not trying to re-live the glory days 40 years ago, either technically, or stylistically, or that didn't weigh north of 3750lbs properly equipped.

Something that was cutting a new line for itself...

I understand the style thing, but I kind of like the Camaro. My first car was a 1969 Camaro. I got 20 years ago.

Re: What has 6 gears 425hp and 20in wheels?

That is cool.

I don't begrudge anyone for liking the retro stuff, or the originals. It is fun to look at for me, too...

What I don't like is that in the sub 35K class, there isn't a modern, light-weight RWD/AWD coupe.

The Genesis 3.8 GT/Track coupe comes close... but the side quarter windows, and the puckered front end... just not quite right.

Still waiting for the Subaru coupe to drop...

Camaro should have a Pontiac platform mate that is sleek and modern.

Mustang should have a sleek and modern Mercury counterpart, maybe even a Lincoln Mark IX.

Challenger should have a Chrysler counterpart, preferably lighter, and styled like the Firepower concept.

The 370Z looks like a toad. If it were green it would BE kermit the car equivalent to a frog.

But to give credit where credit is due, the Retro 3 do evoke the muscle car vibe pretty well. 2011 will be interesting to see how 3 400+hp cars compete.

It is almost a little scary that 3 400+hp muscle cars are available to almost anyone who can get a driver's license... 20 years ago, the mustang had less peak power than the SVX debuted with. 30 years ago, they were strangled almost to death with original CAFE regs... V8s with less than 200hp... I hope the new CAFE regs don't do the same in the near future.

In your case, Mikecg, I am sure you are not a driver to worry about... just don't let your sweet red SVX get neglected with all that attention going to the Chevy.

IMHO, that would be the 370Z

That's what I'm talking about My second car was a 69 Cobra Jet Mach 1 with shaker hood. '69 was a very good year, and these retros bring back a bit of the passion. It took 40 years to do it. As for 20 years ago, American muscle was just a dream of days gone by.

Can't disagree with ya on the tech side. It is simply an observation of all retro vehicles. The nitche market is not what I would think any self respecting large company should be going after long term. As I said I'd rather see an updated Camaro with possibly awd, a v-6 turbo a modern design rather than a rehash of the same old same old. How many 16 year olds even remember what a Camaro is?
