Issues with updating 92 to 95 wood grain trim
Hey, I'm having an issue with the woodgrain, there's 3 types.
There's: dark woodgrain (92) lighter brown (95) lighter brown and glossy (95) This is really really annoying me and getting expensive (will upload pics soon). When I had the dashboard out I installed the cigarette wood which was glossy and then yesterday picked up a climate control face panel and they are the same except the climate control is not glossy and the cigarette panel is!! Can anyone with a 95 upload pics or explain this for me!! I'm not sure which of the lighter brown is correct but I'm hoping it's the glossy one because I won't be able to take it out if it's not.. Thanks a lot, Jordan. |

Re: Issues with updating 92 to 95 wood grain trim
Here is a picture of the 2 different interior trims installed. They may look the same in this picture but I can assure you they're different. One is glossy and one isn't, they're both the same pattern and colour |

You are going to end up needing to use all the same type, the difference between silk finish and glossy will be too conspicuous. If you have only bought one glossy piece [am I right?] then the better option is to exchange or sell this piece and replace with all silk finish. Why won't you be able to take it out? There is nothing that can't be removed. Do you mean because you have soldered in the power wire to the lighter? Joe

Re: Issues with updating 92 to 95 wood grain trim
I've just checked my cars here in the light of this information.
Sure enough, the '92 UK car has the so called 'dark wood grain', and it is in silk finish. I think of it as purple melange rather than any even distant resemblance to wood. I also have '93 and '95 UK cars. Both were built in '93 though. Both of these sport the nicer light wood grain, and both are silk finish. Possibly the glossy wood grain came on stream in late '95. Joe

oooooooooooorrrrr....
Some one clear coated a set of light grain and you got a piece of it. I know there were a few people wanting to do that here on the forum a while back. (I personally would like to have it done... but the effort is just not there...maybe when I get the whole car painted)

Re: Issues with updating 92 to 95 wood grain trim
Hahaha I haven't clear coated it, it's just the way it came, it's so annoying!!!
I put this cig panel on when I had the whole dashboard out for other reasons, so I may have to take the whole dash board out again. Hey Joe, the aircon panel above the cig panel is a new 95 model part, does this match up with yours and do you want me to upload another picture of my 92 aircon panel to compare colours? Thanks for your help, I was about to scrap the whole thing and go back to all 92 even though it's all scratch and screwed up. |

Yes, a photo of your '92 fake wood should be of interest. I'd be expecting it to be purple melange No disrespect to your photographic skills Jordan, but the clarity and colour rendition of that photo is $hite. Did you use a wet cell battery mobile phone or a pinhole camera or something to take it? Joking aside, it does look like the same colour and texture as my 3 UK cars. Well, vaguely the same if viewed through smoke and mist and a hangover.
