Has anyone installed Fogs on an Aussie SVX?

Hey all I'm looking for a way to install HIDs in the fogs on the aussie model, when you take off the cap where the fogs are supposed to be, there's a piece of sheet metal that looks like it's bolted to the back of the headlight, does anyone know if anything can be inserted?

Merry christmas and Happy new year everyone!!!!

I don't know, but I want to do that as well!

Every time the hood of the car is open, I look at the spots where the fogs should be and wonder.....

Installing fogs would necessitate the need for SVX fog switches for the dash too. I imagine those are nigh on impossible to find.

Re: Has anyone installed Fogs on an Aussie SVX?

I have mentioned this before, but I would also like to 'activate' my rear fog lights. Maybe wire them up as extra tail/brake lamps like 'plantchick' has done.

While we're at it, why not wire up the rear side marker lights as well!

you could use the fog lamps from u.s. housings if you're not afraid to split your lamps apart. Do you have a pic of these tail lamps you're speaking about. I'm in the market for a set of uk tail lights.

Cool Re: Has anyone installed Fogs on an Aussie SVX?

I got a rear light unit sent out from USA when I broke mine - they came with the extra barake lights - wiring loom matches ALL years!! so no cutting to make the extra stops to work.

I noticed just today on a German website that they are wondering how this same thing might be achieved.

This leads me to suspect that Oz import [not second-hand from Japan] SVXs have glass headlights. I say this because the UK and German headlights are the glass variety. Japanese and USA headlamps are plastic. The plastic tends to deteriorate a lot more, to become dull and opaque with age from UV damage I suspect.

Plastic lamps get the 3rd inner lamp. Glass lamps do not.

It may sound penny pinching but my theory as to why the 3rd [fog] lights were blanked is about the availability of live feed wires in the front lights loom/cord.

In the UK version there is an additional motor in the headlamp chassis which is able to tilt or adjust the dipped beam to compensate for heavy weight in the back. It's my theory that possibly the live feed for this function takes up the live that in the other[plastic] markets feeds the inner fog position lamps.

Another possible [and maybe more likely!] theory relates to German TUV regs. TUV testing is stringent, and there is the possibility that to get the SVX past the German admission regulations [Germany was the important Euro market!] they may have decided to leave out the inner fog position. I don't know the letter of the law in Germany, but it is highly possibly the TUV regs could have a prohibition on 3 lamps being lit in the same position, or possibly may have deemed that fogs and dims on in the same line might appear to be main beams to oncoming drivers and confuse them.

As the German lamps had to be glass they probably just did the one glass lamp build for all those markets getting the motorised dimmer. So we didn't get the inner fogs because the Germans didn't allow it at the time.

It should be possible to split the headlamp case and insert the fog reflector and bulb holder from a JDM style lamp. However I do suspect that if this was lit by an HID set-up it could prove to be extremely glare prone, because the lens in the glass is designed for dispersal.

But that's just my opinion.

Joe

I may have read that same German SVX forum. I saw some discussion about a law specifying the minimum distance between the headlight and fog lights, and on the SVX they were too close together.

Can you imagine all of the resulting design rules needed to satisfy the various laws around the world when you're trying to develop a car?
