for some reason, the SVX and some cheap Winterhandler snow tires gave me more confidence than my LGT and Blizzaks do. remember, AWD does not help with braking, cornering, and downhills on ice. good snow and ice tires will help a little, studded ones more so.

Nokian WR is an all season with a snow tire rating.

Re: Is something wrong here? (slipin' n slidin')
There is no such thing as an "all season" tire. If you live somewhere that often has decent snowfalls, sub-freezing temps, and all that other winter fun, there is no substitute for a good set of dedicated winter tires.
For my snow tires I went to a 205/55/16 instead of the stock 225/50/16 size. A bit narrower to dig through the snow, same overall height.

Their compound also does well during summer season. http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/tp/tp2823/sidewall.htm I have Nokian summer and winter tires on both my cars. Love them! http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=1...me=Nokian+WRG2 Quote:

[There is a thread on here way back where a member slid his car on ice into a kerb and deformed the steering geometry. Very costly. You won't want to be doing that ] If you want to improve your ability to handle snow, the cheapest way is to buy two chains for the front wheels. Do NOT put chains on all 4, it's against manufacturer's recommendations. Have fun, Joe

Re: Is something wrong here? (slipin' n slidin')
Addendum:
If you could afford it, the 205 Nokians is a way better solution to take. You can have fun all year round.

Re: Is something wrong here? (slipin' n slidin')
From what I now understand, there is a mod to make the SVX 50/50 all the time? Would this be a good or bad mod to do?

Re: Is something wrong here? (slipin' n slidin')
I'm not sure about the SVX but I know that on the 4EAT Foresters, if you put it in 1 or 2 (not D) you get 50/50.

Re: Is something wrong here? (slipin' n slidin')
I have the Toyo Garit tires http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires...ategory=winter on our SVX and love them. I like them better than the Blizzak's on our Baja Turbo. I have BFG traction T/A's for the summer and they are ok for winter but the Toyo's are night and day difference.
