The's only's ways to get's that's rear main seal fixed is to pull the engine OR trans (trans being the easier route). Either way, the two have to be seperated.

Re: main rear seak broken, stuck in Sacremento

I think I will have to junk it here in sacremento? not much of a choice--will have to wait till junkyards are open tomorrow; one last night in my svx or try to sell for parts; but don't think it will drive very far.
I need to get to LA, so anyone going that way???

use some oil treatment slick 50, marvels mystery oil, Lucas, something to try to add extra lube power if its losing oil that bad. maybe the extra treated oil will keep bearing okay with no oil pressure.

Re: main rear seak broken, stuck in Sacremento

Would be easier to have a shop fix it than to buy a new car! Would be ~500 bucks or so, not sure what the rate is down there, at my work we charge 6 hours to do an access cover, which is just as much work as a rear main.

You could also perhaps rig up some sort of catch can with a washer pump to pump the oil back into the engine, I've seen that done on an old Dodge truck, would at least get you back to LA... If you get me a phone number, there are some USMB members in Sacramento that could probably help you out.

Re: main rear seak broken, stuck in Sacremento

Hey so that was my parents posting it for me.

I made it to a friends of a friends house east on I-80 about 20min from I-5. I can drive about 10 min before the oil light comes on, so I'm guessing 1 qt of oil every 3 min or so. I had to pull over twice to refill the oil for a 20 mile trip. It's smoking like crazy from the oil hitting the exhaust. It leaks only when its on and only when the car's hot. A cold start and it doesn't leak for about 30 seconds. As far as I know, there has been no engine damage. Most likely going to do a fire sale on craigslist.
If anyone wants to buy/help here's my #
213-268-0990

I'm 99% sure that its the rear main seal near the top. Anyone going to LA?

If its coming from the back of the engine then its rear main seal. I know mine leaked but no were as bad. Pretty amazed it is just gone.

<<I'm 99% sure that its the rear main seal near the top. >>

what are you talking about by "top"? i think its the separator plate. unless you damaged the rear main or someone put it in to far, no way that would leak that fast. either way, you have to get the engine and tranny apart from each other.

Check out www.uship.com to see if you can get it shipped back to you home. I'll schedule a dirt nap for ya (or have Earl the enforcer do it) if you junk an SVX over a sealJK. It really doesn't sound like the rear main to me simply because you shouldn't get that much out of it even if you put the car together without one. At the very least sell it to an SVXer out there for your bus ticket home.
