Well, let's see: B-1A (the predecessor of B-1B) program has started in 1969. Tu-160 was conceived in 1972. They went into service in 1986 and 1987, respectively. That is, most of the development was in parallel and, given the same goals, notsurprisingly resulted in similar aircrafts.

The only difference is that Tu160 is almost twice as fast (M2.05 vs M1.25), has a 50% longer operating range (10800mi vs 7500mi) and carries more payload (89000lbs vs 75000lbs).

Not bad for a "rip-off", eh?

Dear Lee,

"Stealth" is just an excuse for Lockheed Martin and Boeing to rip off the United States government unseen amounts of money, which in turn will have to be paid off by generations to come.

Yes, the signature radius of some aircraft is smaller, others larger... but guess what... there is nothing that С-400 Триумф (NATO Classification: SA-21 Growler) can not shoot down.

Now when it comes to dog fighting, maneuverability, multi-role capability and other characteristics... I would be interested to see your "STEALTHy" suggestions.

You are smoking too much rope if you don't think stealth is a reality. The planes you mention would never see the Raptor before they were shot down. The Raptor IS a true 5th generation aircraft. The ONLY one in existence.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, scotch in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA !!!!!
