Gearshift Selector

hi,

i have 2 problem with my gearshift?

1)
i can only shift by pushing the release button to get it out of "P" position.

2)
the light on the gearshift is out.


are these things easy to repair or not?

I'm a noob at this but as far as number 2, I don't think there is a light, either that or mine is out also.

I think the light is in the guage cluster so there is no need for it on the shifter itself.

I will definitely follow this thread to learn something else.

there is a light cause it was working before and now its not. yours is out like my.

1) there is a little solenoid that electronically does what manually pressing the button accomplishes. Most likely dirty or gummed up. Can be taken off and checked. About 95% sure a search will find someone who has fixed this.
