As many of you know, I wanted to buy 4 new Yokohamma AVS-db tires. I tried to get these tires but they seem to be "out of stock or back ordered" all over. So this morning I bought 4 Dunlop Sport SP-5000 AS-ymetrical tires. The installed cost was $667.18 at NTB (owned by Sears). This includes NTB's road hazzard warranty (but no sales tax in DE). These Dunlops are not as crisp handling as the Toyo Proxes T1-S tires that were replaced. But the Toyo's were W-rated summer performance tires, while the Dunlops are W-rated all-season performance tires. They are alot quieter than the Toyo's, but I can still hear different road surfaces. At first I thought that one tire was insalled backwards. The tread pattern is that weird. Even some of the NTB guys couldn't figure it out. Good thing Dunlop embossed the right direction on each tire. I have extra rims, so I kept one Toyo mounted on a wheel. No my trunk has the doughnut plus a full sized spare as my "just in case insurance".

1) I wish you guys would stop all the "Puntificating" because I laugh so hard that I become deflated.
2) On my home computer I seem to have lost the copy/paste feature from Yahoo to here & vice versa. That's why I posted it here today and not Sat. morn. After only a weekend of driving, I will say that the Toyos made me a more confident driver. I haven't found the limits on these Dunlops yet. But there is a decreasing radius turn with improper (reverse) banking (I just love the way they design roads around here) that is on my way home. The Toyos would start to scream and the front end would plow at 93mph. I'll test the Dunlops tonight.

AH, disregard my post on the other thread asking where you'd been. 'Nuff said.

He did a very popular song in the seventies: "Will It Go 'Round in Circles?"

Ron,

Monday night I drove down to your neck of the woods on I-95 during that hard rain storm. I made it down to I-695 & Towson, Md.
I now have the Dunlop Sport SP-5000 AS tires on my SVX and I think you do too.
During my driving in the really hard rain the rear wheels were were making a sound like someone throwing gravel into the rear wheel wells. I assume this sound comes from the spray due to the weird tread pattern on these tires.
Do your tires make this noise too in the rain?
They handle very well at speed in the rain. I can't wait until we get some snow.

Larry, you actually take your car out in the rain? Phew!
Hey, if you'd driven another 25 miles or so, you'd have passed my house, & seen me scrambling west (yes, in the rain) in an attempt to save the car & my own butt from the tornado that ravaged the U. of Maryland, & was headed up I-95 on a predicted path to my front door. I was scared crapless. The tornado tore up Laurel, MD, about 12 miles south of me, then fizzled out.
It's funny, I really DID think about saving the car. No wheels on the house. It's Maryland, not West Virginny!
My Dunlops are the "standard"? SP5000s, so I don't know if there's a comparison to be made. I've never noticed any particular increased spray noise, but maybe the CD player has always masked the problem. Perhaps if you'd do the Owens-Corning R-12 modification to the wheelwells, the noise would be subdued. Snow? That's when my old mini-van gets a workout.
Ron.

Ron,

We have a car that is the reigning
Beauty Queen of All Wheel Drive.

That means:

---- ANY TIME----
---- ANY ROAD ----
---- ANY WEATHER ----

I'm a bit surprised that you ran From the tornado. It would have been a good test of the body's aerodynamics.

Seriously, I glad your ok. How's your house?

House still standing. Not so good at U. of MD, however. You may have read by now about the two co-ed sisters whose Sable was swept up & blown OVER an 8 story building. They died. How tragic. Whether 5000 die or only 2, it still makes me sick.

Ron.

I know what you mean. The Toyo Proxes T1-S tires that I put on were great handling tires. Their tread design is very similar to the SO-2's.
