re: svx - definitely high upkeep
svx. costs alot to maintain. year to date - about $7k. just put $2k into it.
i have never spent so much money on a car before. now it runs so smoothly and quiet that all i hear is the exhaust (which is annoying) and the nice sounds of my cd player. it feels almost as good as a new car. actually it is almost a new car. i've replaced just about everything that is worn. now i need to find a way to pull out those little dimples and repaint as well as buy some new leather seats. redo the suede maybe. ah well. i'm just babbling. normally i'm tight when it comes to spending money, but i never knew that i would spend so much on a car. then again, what else would i spend money on? strippers? |

here a partial list:
rotors brakes alloy wheels tires calipers axles bearings cat. converter exhaust system all the seals visors ashtray front speakers radio/cd player wiper arms refinished w/blades all belts plugs waterpump thermostat front lamp bulbs driver and passenger rear lights tranny cooler flushed all fluids all off the top of my head. probably some more i can't remember. dream - to restore my svx to near new quality hmm..maybe i should have saved the money for either a new rx8 or more strippers. probably can have one hell of a time with the amount i spent on my little green svx ;P Last edited by Noir; 05-13-2003 at 05:21 PM. |

If you think your svx is expensive to maintain, wait until you get married.

you can always get a Honda if the SVX is too expensive maintenance-wise.

If you think marriage is expensive to maintain, you better hope Kimberly isn't looking over your shoulder. Your health insurance just went through the roof. My condolences, Ron.

7k in "fixing" a used automobile is pretty excessive...
especially if that year-to-date figure began only 5 months ago... |

yup sure is 5th.
yup sure is 5th. but i don't mind. i'm actually having fun. some things were broken and needed to be fixed when i bought it, but some are just replacements that i chose to replace before they wore out. i would hate to be out of town and something goes wrong. thank god i have a job with all the people getting laid off (many old friends/co-workers got laid off). and the fact that i'm a cheap bastard that doesn't spend money on anything else other than good food helps .
it's worth every penny, it drives much, much better now than it did when i first bought it. i'm about to head to subaru for a few minor fixes. expensive it is. i have no intention of buying any new honda. i was looking to buy a cheap 5-speed car for under $1k to practice with (i've driven a stick only twice in my life). in regards to imm.suby....hmm...what makes being married expensive? since i'm not married and won't be for a while (with the way my life goes, watch me get engaged next week for making that statement) i'm just curious. |

Like they say, the older they are, the bigger the problems (expenses). My older son is just reaching driving age and I am looking for a cheap Subie that he can learn on and probably wreck. Add to that the insurance costs, and it may just make sense to strangle him the next time he really pisses me off.

I tried to never let her drive mine - she drove it twice (I was drunk) She was hooked. She bought her own. You think one is expensive to maintain? Heh - try 2. She beams with pride when she drives it though, so it's worth every penny. I can't even imagine Earl - what does he have seventeen or eighteen of them now?? I really need to learn how to change timing belts, bearings, and cam seals or I'm going to be put under.
