Question EG33 swap need advice (ECU electrical)

Hi everyone hows it going?

My names Erick and I'm helping out a friend with his EG33 swap into a 1996 Impreza coupe. I'm not a novice with electricity but I am to the SVX EG33 ECU and some of the wiring that goes with it.

Some stats about the Impreza that the EG33 is going into.
  • It is a 5-speed M/T
  • It will not have A/C

I have some questions that I'm looking for some help on. I have noticed a few of you have done swaps into various models and I hope you could give me some insight to whether or not I need stuff or not.

I will group my questions by ECU connector

B60
pin 9, pin 10- Parking and neutral switch
Should I ground these or leave them open to simulate that the car is in (P or N)?

B61
pin 8, pin 7- select monitor signal
Do I need these? I'm not even sure what these go to.

I have more questions but these will do for now.

Thanks everyone!

leave the park/neutral switch open.

Don't worry about the select monitor

Re: EG33 swap need advice (ECU electrical)

Thanks for the quick reply Tom!

Another thing, i have two wires that come from one of the big round connectors (14 pins?). One wire is yellow with a green stripe and the other is yellow with a black stripe. Does anyone know if I will need these? The only place I have found on my wiring diagram with them is going to the select monitor. I guess I don't need that thing.

Thanks for the help!
I'm sure I will think of more questions once I get home and I'm looking at the harness.

Oil pressure switch and temp sensor that run straight to the dash and nothing more

I wire in a clutch position switch on the clutch pedal to simulate the Park/Neutral, thins will allow it to start only when the clutch is depressed, and will also allow your cruise control to work (and kick off if you press in the clutch)

Re: EG33 swap need advice (ECU electrical)

Thanks for the info huck! I just remembered that the car will not have cruise control. I told my friend to keep it since it will be his DD but he already removed it. I guess it is one less thing to worry about. I will look into the switch on the clutch pedal.

There are a few thick white wires with a red stripe coming into the ECU. I know these are positive but do i connect these to power when the key is to run and start? Fused that is.

I don't recall off hand, but pretty sure the ECU wiring diagram is posted in the "How-To" forum...it should tell you.

No need to wire it into the ECU, w/o the inputs it is always considered in park/neutral, which doesn't effect the running of the engine in any way.

Cruise and starting are all on a separate circuit

Re: EG33 swap need advice (ECU electrical)

Will I need the fuel pump discharge control for anything?

I was thinking about running the fuel pump relay control wire to a relay to activate the pump. Main reason doing this is I know how it works. This set-up works great on my Talon and I don't see why I wouldn't work on this application. I feel the stock SVX fuel pump controls have a lot of unnecessary inputs attached to it. Why not make it simple.

not my picture but shows what i'm getting at.

Also Would it be OK if I connected all the ground wires and put them on a good ground?

Thanks for the help guys!

Re: EG33 swap need advice (ECU electrical)

In FrankenWedge, I just grounded the fuel pump, and hooked up a relay to run it when the car was on, has been working great for 3 years..
