E10, Did I just get off the boat?

I filled my tank the other day on my Legacy the other day at my local Giant market. While staring into space, I look down at the bottom of the pump and see a sticker that read fuel may contain up to 10% ethanol. After a search I became educated to all the wonders of E10. I'm a little angry the sticker isn't displayed a little more prominently. I use Seafoam about once a year and now find out it is a bad combination with E10 fuel. I also saw a decrease in MPG with this fuel compared to the station across town. Good thing I never use Giant fuel in my SVX. Here is a link to some fuel additives that are safe with E10.

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I believe Sheetz does have ethanol. I primarily use Sheetz and GetGo (Giant Eagle) for my gas. Sometimes I use Sunoco because there is a station right by my office.

What is wrong with using E10? Are there disadvantages?

Mike

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

I just did a search. Officially, Sheetz gas "may" be E10.

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

It's better for the environment
It starves countries of their corn supply
It damages some fuel systems (mostly pre 90's)
Has less burn power (lower MPG's)
Creates more US jobs.

Pros outweighs cons as far as our future as humans go I guess. Not so sure about engines tho Another way to get the gas guzzlers off the road!

Increases the Octane rating.

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

I heard it was bad for small engines such as chain saws and string trimmers. Not sure if that is actually true or not.

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

Been like this for years.
It's getting harder down here to find stations that don't use any ethanol.

I know about the whole E10 at some stations thing, but never consider anything about not using fuel addatives with it.

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

E10 has been prevelent at most gas stations on the east coast for the last 5+ years (cleaner emissions, or so the sticker on the pump says...)

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

The Marathon where I buy most of my gas has 10% ethanol; I suspect that's the case with most or all discount brands. As others have posted, this is nothing new hereabouts. My cars consistently return 21+ MPG in routine commuting and 27+ on the highway, and have no starting, idling, or drivability issues. I use no additives nor magical foamy potions.

All this said, I think 10% should be the maximum ethanol content in general-purpose motor fuel.

Re: E10, Did I just get off the boat?

It's my understanding it is really only used in the winter at some places.
