Subaru's New 3.6 H6 motor...

Some details about Subaru's new 3.6 "Boxer" engine to debut in the 2008 Tribeca:

• The powerplant’s figures jump to 256 horsepower (+11) and 247 pound-feet of torque (+32), all while getting better fuel economy.
• Without increasing the physical dimensions of the power unit, the displacement was expanded from 3.0 to 3.6 liters, which was made possible primarily through design changes involving expanded bore
dimensions and a longer stroke.
• The new engine maintains the same levels of emissions and fuel efficiency as the previous 3-liter unit, despite the larger engine size and more powerful output.
• The new 3.6-liter boxer engine features Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS) for controlling timing in both the intake and exhaust valves, which helps provide improved low-end torque.
• Design modifications made to the cooling system allow the use of regular unleaded gasoline, which contributes to lowering consumer operating costs.

Nice to see that Subaru's keeping the H-6 alive!

Anyone for a 3.6L SVX?

Hopefully there will be a turbo variant in the works.

I'm pretty sure that they run it super lean in partial throttle conditions which would increase combustion temps significatly, but with better cooling, would run not damage the motor. All the while using regular gas, to make it cheaper for the consumer.

I'm sure that subaru has torture tested the motor (or are currently doing so) and i doubt they would release it with an issue like blowing up headgaskets (They're not Chrysler after all). I'd be more concerned with anyone trying to boost this motor. Seeing as how between the "improved cooling" and "same size more displacement" lines I can read "thin cylinders walls with an open deck and water jackets everywhere"

Presumably the cams are chain driven.

!
The bored was changed very little and the spacing is the same, But the stroke was increased from 80mm to 91mm making them need asymmetrical connecting rods to keep the engine from getting too big. Yes, the coolant pathes now allow for regular gas and it is said the engine will be at least 10% more efficent than the 3.0.
