Dashboard lights

Christmas came early - dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree after the car is started. Drove home fine last night, now when the car is started, the following lights stay on..

ATF temp
Steering
Ign
Stop lights
ABS

Any ideas what the cause is?

Thanks

Tried to start the car this morning - very sluggish. Switched off, tried again, just the solenoid rapping. Yo!

Hooked another battery up, exactly the same. No fault codes...

Ok, had battery checked - completely dead. New one fitted, started strongly. Lights still on tho! Cancelled codes just in case but no change.

Help!!

Alternator

Sounds like your alternator. Do a search on alternators and you'll read plenty of posts that sound like yours. Testing the alternator at a parts store doesn't always work as many members have had theirs test OK but turn out bad. A bad alternator would explain the bad battery. If you don't get this repaired, your next battery will be soon dead too.

Significant Technical Input
It's a result of the way Subaru wired the alternator (battery) warning light. The rectifier and regulator need to be replaced, or you can replace the entire alternator. If you're handy and have a soldering iron replacing the parts are (is?) relatively simple.

Thanks both.

Had the belts replaced a couple of weeks ago, so thought that it might be that. No such luck, adjusted the tension.

When idling, the battery is only seeing 12.07 V.

Anyone have part numbers for the bits?

Thanks Beav,

My reconditioner has never heard of these numbers, altho' I have got them off the website that you supplied. There is a distributor in Germany, so I may well go direct to them to get them supplied.
