I have had intermittent keyless entry operation since I bought the car. After gutting the dash to find the alarm box in perfect working order (nothing rattled when I shook it), I took apart my transmitter.

To make a long story short, if you have a remote that was supplied to a '92 or '93 SVX, and your car only sometimes responds to your presence, do this:

1. Enter the security system's programming mode as exlpained in the manual.

2. Then, instead of pressing on the big orange dot, press the blank space in between that dot and the SVX logo. The car should respond with its friendly 'FURP!'

These older remotes have another button in that blank area and the transmitter's case is even cut to press that button. Since nobody uses it, much less knows about it, that button is probably far less worn than the one you use every day.

Happy driving.

Mine replies with a friendly "Honk." (sorry, I just couldn't handle the anemic horns). Glad you finally figured it out. So, the button was just "worn," then.

When I opened my remote, it only had one button. Of course, I had to order mine shortly after I bought the car, which means I got a "newer" model.

Good call, though. I knew about the two-button older model remote, just never thought about "switching buttons."

The horn on the SVX is far better than the one in my previous vehicle, an '87 Toyota pickup. That horn said nothing more than 'excuse me.'
