Smile Nitrogen in Tires?

Stopped by my mechanic and tire place today. He asked me if I had heard anything about using Nitrogen gas in tires.

He keeps coming across articles about it claiming better gas mileage, no air leaks, and runs tires cooler. Apparently some stations out west are providing it. At a price of course. No info on what the improvement is or how much it costs.

Anyone hear or know anything?

A quick search of a few other forums says it is overkill for a street car.

Go figure that places would charge extra for nitrogen - nevermind that it's the most abundant gas in the atmosphere.

A nitrogen-rich miture has a few benefits. The biggest is that your tire pressure won't change much with temperature.

I don't see it being worth it (in the least) for a road car.

Nitrogen

Bought my car with notrogen in the tyres (tires), when I have to replace the tyres, sometime later this year, I will not be getting nitrogen again.

Too much trouble when you rotate or check your tyre pressure. Air is free and you can inflate your tyres any where. Minor advantage using nitrogen as against lots of little hassels.

Kenn

BTW Guess how much trouble it causes when some kid at the supermarket decides to let your tyre down a bit, just too see whats in it

How about using Helium instead --- it will make the car a little lighter, thus better acceleration. --

Should just go all out and use hydrogen, but then you couldent get your tires to hot.
