Talking Early Morning Fun

Hi gang,

I finally had a chance to take the new tires thru my favorite S-bend at speed. The S-bend is the ramp form Rte. 202S onto Rte. I-95S. It is sloped downhill.
At 6:20 AM this morning, on the way to work, traffic was very light. I entered the bend at 83 mph and exited at 96 mph (mph from speedo). The best exit speed with my old tires (Toyo Proxes T1-S) was 113 mph. The old tires were summer tires. The new tires are ultra high performance all-season (Dunlop SP-5000 AS). The new tires do not inspire the confidence that the old ones did. There seems to be more squirming and rolling/flexing of the sidewalls then the old tires had. Their handling is not as crisp as the old ones. I guess that's the price that you pay for all season capability. The new ones are not as noisy, nor ride as hard as the old ones. I did jack up the tire pressures slightly Sunday morning to improve the ride and feel. I went from the recommended 33/29 psi (front/rear) to 35/30psi. It seems to have helped by smoothing out the ride and taking the slopiness out of the handling. Or maybe it's just me imagining it. I will keep trying to increase speed thru this ramp until I can get over 100 mph. What a great way to start the day. It makes your heart sing with joy.

Unless you are a insect hovering at a low altitude over the ramp....
