chime location ??

No warning for key in ignition when the door is open, or other things most cars "chime" in on.

I don't know if it just doesn't work, or was disconnected - has never worked since I bought the car.

Thought I'd start out at the part that's supposed to make sound - but I haven't got the foggiest of where that is.

If someone would be so kind as to point out where the box (or whatever it is) is located. I would appreciate the help.

Next, if it turns out not to have been deliberately disconnected, any ideas besides the normal and tedious electrical trace?

I just spent about 15 mins looking through subaruparts.com for that part but came up unsuccessful. I'll have to hunt down the sound in my car and let you know where it's located.

Anybody want to look dumb moving their head around inside the car with their keys in the ignition and door open - then report that back here - so I can find out where to look for the box that makes sound?

Actually, a new thought came to mind - what does the stock system sound like - gentle chime, or obnoxious whatever? Maybe I shouldn't try to fix this.

I never hear mine because it's almost instinctive that I remove the keys from the ignition before I open the door.

I'm pretty sure it's in the center console under the e-brake handle. I can see something through there that has a little 'grate' on it and it has a lable that indicates it is a chime or buzzer of some kind. I'll look again later.

When you find it, tell me so I can rip it out. It would have to be the most anoying thing about the car. You can't have the key in the acc. position with the door open and the sound system on without that damed chiming sound.
I just have to turn my hearing aid off. The frequency is too high for me to trace, seems to come from every where.

You might be right. I sat for about a minute during my lunch trying to track down the source of the noise.

As for how it sounds, it's a repetitive beep lasting for approx 1/3 second with a 2/3 second pause between beeps.
