Chris - I just blew out my radiator...have you completed the order? Would this be a good option for me?
I have a 1992 LSL (touring, pearl w/ black spoiler) that I use every day. Sometimes high speed interstate, often on surface roads in nasty DC-area congestion. I _hate_ plastic radiators, however, my dealer can get me a new one and install it for under $600. Should I go this route? I just moved so my regular mechanic (who liked the car) isn't an option any more. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Ruth |

this rad is exactly what you are looking for. You are gonna have to wait probly bout a month until they get sent out to us. Cost is 450 shipped and install is simple enough anyone can do it. so you might actually save money with this.

Radiator
Tom's right Ruth, these radiators are going to be awesome and much longer lasting. I figure at least 3 times as long as plastic and can be repaired more easily.

Tube diameter/Flow rates
If, (do I have this right?), the flow rates are approximately the same, and trans fluid (90 wt.) is nearly double the viscosity of engine oil (30-50 wt. depending on geograhic location and season) and will flow properly through the cooler, what difference does the oil cooler tube diameter make to functioning as an engine oil cooler? Lower viscosity should be more fluid. Doesn't it flow faster than tranny oil? That begs the question of flow rate of various weight oils and viscosiy reduction under temperture. Can you give an approximate response of flow rate? And how much difference, if any, does flow rate make? Isn't there sufficient surface area to provide effective engine oil cooling if it's engineered to work on hot tranny fluid?
Your input is appreciated. Thanx, WGJ |

If this is still open, count me in for a radiator.

The engine oil flows at a much higher rate than the ATF fluid.

Updates?
Any updates on the status of the order yet? My radiator is in bad, bad shape and no patches I apply are lasting longer than a few days.

WGJ, Just for clarity, are you running an MT? Most of us use ATF(DexRonIII) and it's far thinner than the 90wt gear oil you refer to in your questions. I just don't wanna be talking apples to your oranges.

Automatic
Plan on going to synthetic oil and filter replacement etc. when the new radiator is installed. I'm an Amsoil dealer, so I'll be using the appropriate Amsoil synthetic throughout he car.

In if not to late
Count me in for one also, if it is not too late. Bought another one that I plan to keep forever, so want the best for it.
