front wheel shudder during auto-x sweeper
I've been meaning to post this... when I auto-x'ed my SVX, there was one long flat right-hand sweeper on the course, and my car was always understeering on it. On my last few runs, the left front wheel begin to skip and shudder across the asphalt while understeering through the corner under acceleration. Anyone had this happen with their SVX? Strut and strut mounts are new, and the A-arm bushings look to be in good shape. Kinda thinking it may be due to loose ball joints. Any thoughts?

What was the condition of the pavement? I get a similar effect (shudder) when they set up the FedEx Field course across a certain section of "bad parking lot". It spooked me the first time it happened until I mentioned it to one of the SCCA instructors and he said he had the same experience in his Mini Cooper S. You may have not experienced it initially because your tires hadn't warmed up to the point where they were really "sticking". -Bill

Can't say there was anything unusual about the condition of the pavement on that sweeper, but that was the only corner where it happened. I hope it was just the pavement. Might do the balljoints anyhow though. They probably have some free play.

It could be the ball joints or it could be (no offense) your driving.
I'd check the ball joints for free play.

i noticed this while auto-xing as well, i on the other hand had 170k + suspenion(to my knowldege, i must assume) but had the exact same feel that the shear weight of the car was too much. tire would bounce and vibrate as if it was slipping in and off.

Is it possible...
that the shudder could come from sidewall flex?
I remember feeling a shudder when taking tight corners at high speeds in my ol' Lightning, and I was told by my mechanic that it was from the sidewall of the outside front tire flexing during the turn. Could this be it? -Chike
