Drop tranny pan - fill what????
I have spent all morning looking for the thread that mentions that something needs to be filled (filter?) when dropping the tranny pan and refilling it again before you start the engine. A friend of mine just did this last night and we want to be sure to take all saftey measures so he doesn't damage anything.
Thanks

just put in about 6 qts through the dipstick hole and you'll be OK. Of course you then have to run it a bit and check fluids for proper level, etc.
The trick you're remembering is to fill the torque converter with fluid before buttoning back in a rebuilt tranny. |

Yeah, what Lee said!
And make sure not to use synth trans fluid! And make sure to go back and check the pan bolts after you've let the trans heat back up - the steel pan and the aluminum trans housing have different CTEs, so the bolts can loosen (happened to me - strangly only on one side). -Bill p.s. I seem to remember that our torque converter doesn't have a drain plug - an I right or wrong?

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to help this guy and then have something major happen to it. Everything went fine. Will check the bolts tomorrow.
He did have some stuff on the screen, and he replaced it. It shoud be fine now - we also replaced the filter while we were at it (external transmission filter)
