Hmmm... I'm thinking that the shields around the headers (exhaust manifold) will definitely go this weekend. I may keep the ones around the primary and secondary cats, only because I wouldn't want them to be damaged by any errant rocks, etc. Also, if heat shields raise temps, cat convertors are only effective once they heat up! Removing them might increase my emissions slightly...

Resonator-less
Me too. The baffle thingy in mine was rattling, and I replaced with straight pipe.
Don't like the sound of it now, so I shall be putting in a new resonator. Your exhaust shop may know a lot about exhausts, but extra heat would not cause extra oxidation of the metal. I would be prepared to accept his theory, if he reckoned that the upper heatshield plate caused moisture to be trapped there when the car was cold or cooling. That indeed would accelerate rusting. For me, heating up the car floor and the interior would be a good enough reason for retaining the shields. I like to keep . Joe

The headers are not near the passenger area, so I should be fine.

Lots of trouble for nothing...
All the exhaust heat shielding on the car (which is there for a reason, as previously mentioned), cannot weigh more than a couple or three pounds. Hard to imagine how removal will provide a meaningful benefit.

Every lb counts when you want to set your car up for SCCA G-Stock AutoX. I ran track in college and I'm a relatively svelte 165lbs. There's not much more weight I could lose on this frame!
I'll weigh the heat shield on my digital kitchem scale when I get back from Harry's place. It could just be three pounds, but you never know - I was surprised to learn that the intake resonator weighed 2.5lbs when I removed it! -Chike Quote:

I got some light weight rubber mats and ditched the heavier fabric ones...
You can't take out the seats, but you can remove the spare w/ jack & tools. -Chike Quote:

Oh yeah! I bought this baby with the intention of making it my 'project' car! Its days as a 'stock' SVX were numbered the moment I drove it off that dealer's lot...

I wouldn't sell them to my worst enemy... They were horrible with rips and stains in the fabric - I threw them out!
