bye bye tranny

ok... i'll go over what has happened in the last 2 weeks, and you guys tell me what i should do....

2 weeks ago i felt the trannty slipping.... going fine in 3rd then rpms shoot up......

brought it to a tranny shop, they drained the pan and replaced all the fluid (no flush)

for a week, the car drove fine. over the weekend, i took a day trip, and on the way there, tranny wouldnt get out of 2nd gear for a few minutes, but then it would work fine, with 2nd gear banging slightly into third.......

on the way back, the car wouldn't go past third gear....

so, this morning, i bring it back to the shop, and on the way there, it won't get out of 2nd gear!!!

tranny shop wants to do a remove and rebuild, using subaru parts for a cost of around $2500........

i told them to give me a few days to ponder, then the guy calls me an hour later and says he thinks it may be an electrical problem.......

the tranny has about 20 - 25,000 miles on it, and i wasn't anticipating replacing it so soon......

HELP!!!!!!!!

btw, i would love to do a 5 speed swap, but it would have to be done at a shop, or at the very least, someone other than me...

anyone have any ideas of how i should deal with this?

would it be the same price for a swap, if i do need a new trann? (that was my plan all along, to put a 5 speed in after the tranny fails)

sorry for the length of this, im not a "car guy" and i need some help... thanks!!!!!

kris
