oil starvation/bearing failure
I just lost my engine to oil starvation. Crank and rods are junk. Maybe the heads can be saved.
There are tiny flecks of orange/red shiny material around the filter which may be from the non-aerobic sealer that I used on the cam cover gaskets. In the interest of making sure there were no oil leaks, I may have overdone the sealer the last time the engine was assembled. What sealer have you other engine builders used with success? What is the oil filter # for the larger filter that I think fits some model of Porsche? Any ideas on the cause of this are welcome. I don't want to do this twice. Mike |

Re: oil starvation/bearing failure
So, if I understand correctly the pick up strainer was plugged with bits of sealant?
Or do you mean the oil filter element? There should be a pressure relief valve within the filter to prevent this.... allowing unfiltered oil to be circulated. The cam cover rubber seals do not really require a sealant to be used. Only tiny drops in the corners where the cam bearings are - see manual. I have used Loctite 5980 with great success. Easy to apply, it's a pressurised tube ! Kind regrads, Tapani |
