Brake pipes
I have a 92 SVX LS-i which has been up on jack stands for a year, after the third tranny swap. As I was test driving it a tranny hose to the remote cooler let go and hosed the hot exhaust, which gave off big clouds of smoke. Being close to home I drove it the block into my driveway and left it there for months before putting it up on the jack stands.
So I took the remote filter and cooler and hooked it back to stock, replaced the hoses and tested it in the driveway. Only to find a leak from the right rear corner, and jacked it up to find the wheel side dry but the sub frame was wet. So my question is "Is there any easy way to replace the brake pipe that's hiding behind the sub frame?"

Re: Brake pipes
Yes you can run a new line. Much easier to run it under the car then thru it but it can be done. I think the tank needs to come out if its the line I'm thinking it is. If you haven't worked with flaring tools before this probably isn't the best time to start. brakes are kind of important.

Re: Brake pipes
Thanks Benebob
I have a parts car that I can pull the pipe off, and then its just a matter of putting them on the other one. I'll pull the tank and check things out on the parts car. Thanks again for the info. Michael

Re: Brake pipes
Honestly I wouldn't put a used pipe on as brake fluid absorbs water and the pipes rust from inside out as well as outside in. You can buy new lengths of pipe dirt cheap from most any parts place. Just need a flaring tool, bender and the proper size ends to go onto what you have (I think it is M10 1.5 thread but you'll want to verify).

Re: Brake pipes
If memory serves me correctly, you have to drop the rear end to drop the gas tank to get at that brake line. When mine went it was above the gas tank.

Re: Brake pipes
Thanks Guys
I have to get this done fast, so I can get it inspection done (its already a year passed due). Two things; first i'll see how it has to be removed by getting the pipe from the parts car, and secondly i'll have the pipe to have a new one made. I wonder if putting the S/S lines on all four corners put undue pressure on the pipes? Thanks for the info, now i have a starting point. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Re: Brake pipes
Thanks for the info, got the pipe for $33 from Subaru near me. Dropped the rear member a few inches I rounded a fitting, now I have my work cut out for me to get it out.

Re: Brake pipes
You can always try cutting the line so you can get a socket on it.

Re: Brake pipes
I did cut the line, and had to use vice grips to get the fitting out. Replaced the line and tried to start all the bolts on the rear cross member, after several hours (two days work for me) their all started and tightened down. The only thing to do is bleed the brakes and it be back on the road again.
Thanks for all the help/info and support. Michael
