Question The Infamous Buzzing Noise

I went to the mechanic about a buzzing noise when I accelerate or rev the engine. The mechanic had me standing under the car, while it was on the rack, next to another mechanic, while the engine was being reved. The purpose was to locate where the noise was comming from. The mechanic I was standing next to told me where he thought he heard the noise and I agreed.

Apparently, I need a new "B-Pipe", also called a "Center Pipe".

Two things. Just wondering if anybody has heard of a B-pipe going south on an svx or if it may be something else. Also, if this is what I need, does anybody know where I could get this part cheep? Aftermarket? They told me the part would cost approx $350 and another $100 for the gaskets (through Subaru), if I needed new ones.
Thanks.
David.

Significant Technical Input
You can go to a muffler shop and have them bend up a replacement pipe with a small resonator or a glass pack. Shouldn't cost more than $80.

Yeah, it's a reasonably straight pipe, nothing special. You could buy it here for $253 ++ http://www.svxparts.com/diag/?model=...category=440-A

are you sure......

it is not just the resonator? could also be the shielding on the cats. any muffler shop can put a piece of straight pipe in place of the resonator. you be happy with the sound change anyway.

Yeah, but what I absolutely want to avoid is a deep rumbling. I want my car to be as quiet as possible.

My car has a glass pack installed (previous owner) with the factory rear muff and it's the same as stock. I can't tell the difference.

Thaks for the ebay reference mike. I asked the seller a few questions and may possible buy the part. By the way, i'm interested in swapping out my seats, as the leather is going bad. Where did you get your's from. I checked out ebay and didn't see any.
Thanks

I got mine from a local place called "Octagon Spares" They have a number of low milage SVX's for salvage. They always pull the interiors and store them inside, so they are really nice. Do a search for "ocatagon" here and you'll find their contact information.

Hey Beav, thanks for your advice. It cost me $44.00 to get a piece of straight pipe welded in place of the resonator. NO MORE BUZZING!!!!!!!!!!That's alot better than the $500.00 I was quoted to get it replaced. I would have never thought to go to a muffler shop if it wern't for you. Sounds great too.
THANKS.

I had my resonator removed on friday... My buzzing went away - $40 even. Not too happy with the exhaust note now though... it's alittle rougher than what i'm used to with the SVX. Is, though, better than buzzing.

Gee guyz, they're a bit pricey in your neighborhood.

Aredubjay <------- paid 25.00 for removal and straight pipe replacement.
