Blinking powerlight with newer shift kit? (Fixed now)
I just got a newer version of the shiftkit. The one with the resistor on it. But my power light still blinks. I used a volt meter to make sure all the connections were done right and they were. Is it possible my car is being picky and wants a less resistive resistor? Does anyone know how many ohms and watts the resistor that comes with it is? If there are no other suggestions I'm going to try a different resistor. That a good place to start?
Thanks Edit; All is well. Information on fix on 2nd page.

I don't think I have a real problem as it only started up when I installed the kit. Happened right after I installed it. I counted 16 blinks.

I would go with Burgundy's response here... but hey... what do we know?

the thing is, if I am correct here... it wont just go away untill you clear it... and you need to find out what it says before you clear it, so if it returns, you know whats up...

The car shifts fine also. None of the symptoms related to a setup with the tranny running at full line presure all the time. Although shifting has firmed up with harder acceleration, but thats supposed to happen. So I don't think the resistor that came stock with the car is bad. All this started occuring only after I installed the kit.

me too
Ya know, my shift kit has been doing the same. 16 blinks for me as well, everytime I startup. I figured it was just another misleading statement in the instructions for the shift kit, but maybe there is something wrong. I can confirm that my car is shifting differently after the install, and that there is power going to it. Any new ideas?

I don't think I'm going to bug small car over a resistor that costs less than $1. I've got a friend who has tons of these things just laying around his house. It would be easier just to get one from him.

I'm not sure about the construction of the kit, I thought the resistor might be built in. As far as the light, it goes on because there is full line pressure, on my car I just disconnected the stock resistor. I have the blinking light because no resistor=full line pressure=power light on startup=code 11. I vaguely remember a post where someone calculated how much resistance is needed to keep the light off. I'll see if I can find it.

I'll be doing this in 2-3 hours. I'll keep everyone updated as to what happens. Edit, I was thinking that in the thread you posted that they are saying without the stock resistor you need to use a 500 ohm resistor to make the light go out. But its a bit different when the current is going through the stock resistor then through another one on the shift kit then just through one 500ohm resistor. With the stock and shift kit resistor there will be alot more resistance and that may result in not enough current for the TCU to keep the powerlight out. Or the resistor could just simply not work at all.

Well. My friend lost his tool that he needed to take the kit out. So nothing happened. But he gave me 2 resistors to try. A 120ohm 5watt resistor and a 200ohm 15watt resistor. I'll try those when its light out again and I have time. I'll post in this thread again when I try them with the results.
Tonight I'm just going to have to work at keeping my car from being egged.
