don't know what fell off
I opened my hood and this rubber thing fell out:

It looks like part of the bottom seal to the center timing belt cover.

yup goes to the timing case. time for new seals. dont stress over it too much though.

Either your missing the two timing cover bolts that go in the holes on the gasket or someone left the gasket out. Maybe it's an extra gasket. That is the gasket that goes between the engine and the T-belt cover. It's from behind the driver cam backing plate as shown here. You can see that U bend in the gasket.
