Repainting Barcelona Red

Has anyone had their Barcelona Red repainted? How did it come out?

Any recommendations as to paint brand, or anything else? I'm growing tired of looking at the sad paint on mine, baked to death by the TX sunshine Time for a renewal

Marisa Ramon "cozykat" would be your go-to for this. She lives in San Antonio. Has researched this quite thoroughly.

She has a '93 anniversary that was painted once and will be undergoing a second repaint. This car will have gone through a major restoration, replacing all rubber trim and gaskets and glass, a complete new interior too.

I would suggest one of the newer water-borne paints for the base red. Easier to paint with better coverage and conrtol. Followed by 3 solvent-based clear coats with UV additives for protection from fading under the hot Texas sun.

Chroma Premier Clear is the gold standard for durability. It's a polyurethane clear. Most clears are Acrylic. I believe it only comes in gallon cans these days. It costs around $250.

The choice of your color coat is independent of your clear coat so for a plain color like your red you might choose to go with an economy color coat and invest more into your clear coat which provides your uv stability. You might also ask your paint shop to lay on more clear. The thicker the clear the more maintenance you can perform before wearing through it.

You might also consider this paint. Glasurit (BASF) makes a very light stabilized clear coat: 923-109 HS UV Clear. They also make a waterborne base coat.
