Rusty / Leaking engine oil pan

My oil pan is leaking and I believe it is rusting through. It looks like a fairly straight forward replacement, however, the manual would have me remove some seemingly unrelated items, such as: the left-hand exhaust manifold cover and pipe, as well as the steering gear box clamps. I need to look underneath again. I am sure someone has done this already. Can the oil pan be removed with the engine in the car. Also, the oil pan itself (Part number 11109AA062) is no longer available from Subaru. I have yet to check on the dipstick tube. (Part number 15144AA022). Does anyone have a good used or possibly new oil pan and dipstick tube they care to sell? Also, there is no gasket used in the factory installation. Does someone else make a gasket such as Felpro? I would prefer to use a flat gasket rather than RTV for a simpler and more foolproof installation. Any tips or thoughts, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

AZZSVX

Check out rockauto.com for the oil pan. The 97 SVX pan will work if your year isn't on there anymore.

Re: Rusty / Leaking engine oil pan

Subaruparts.com shows both the pan and tube as backordered but available. Did your dealer tell you it wasn't?

The pan can be changed in the car, without having to jack up the engine or remove other parts (I've done it). The rear bolts can be accessed with a short 10mm socket on a 1/4" universal joint, or a 10mm swivel socket. Its pretty tight between the crossmember and the pan but its doable. There is no gasket for the pan that I know of, it's an RTV job.

Re: Rusty / Leaking engine oil pan

11109AA062 is discontinued, not on back order.

It can no longer be ordered by a Subaru dealer.

Just checked on the tube. None on hand at any of Subaru's warehouses or any of my regional dealerships. But not coming up as "not available to order". I've seen this before, though, and it is probably discontinued as well.

Wish I could be more helpful.

Re: Rusty / Leaking engine oil pan

If you need the tube (they normally don't go bad) you could try putting an EJ one in there... it may be very close if not actually the same piece.

Re: Rusty / Leaking engine oil pan

Take your pan to a machine shop, have them cnc out some mild steel plate to match the mating surface. Make a few oil pans? Sell them here, profit?
