Refurbishing stock wheels..??
Has anyone had any luck refurbishing stock wheels?
I'm looking at paint, powdercoat or chrome as the obvious options. |

Re: Refurbishing stock wheels..??
.
If you want to retain the "factory-fresh" stock look, Powdercoating is the only way to go. Much more durable than paint. 2-stage (cilver base with a clear protective powdercoat on top) Transwheel is one of the best companies out there and offer a lifetime warranty. See all my posts this thread by clicking HERE or do a search for Transwheel. I recently had them redone under warranty after more than eight years. The finish was as hard and shiny, and without chips as they were when new. I just found a few bothersome small white "streaks" in a couple of the wheels, which only were visible in bright sunlight. Here is a photo of my wheel taken after 6 years: There have been members here that have had them chromed with good success. Dayle at motorsportwarehouse offers a set of black chrome SVX wheels for $780.00 a set exchange. Click HERE .

Re: Refurbishing stock wheels..??
You won't have a problem with this in Houston, David, but I'll warn anyone in the northern climes about the adverse effects of winter road salt on chrome-plated alloy wheels. I used to work for the Infiniti dealership and we offered chromed factory wheels as an aftermarket option. I think Spence Electroplating was the company we sent them out to. They never held up very well here in Utah- I saw some less than 2 years old that were seriously damaged by road salt. Once they start corroding, there's no stopping them and they look terrible.

If you need more than just powdercoating you might check here. They do a great job of refurbishing to include straightening and balancing.

If you want to send your wheels East, I have had great results from PhenixWheels, click link on my signature .
If you want to send your wheels West, Check RojoRocket's threads, he has factory wheels black-chromed for his 97 Ebony .

Re: Refurbishing stock wheels..??
I'd go with powdercoating if it were me. I'm planning on having a set done on another one of my cars, but I have also had many many parts powdercoated by a local man (including ALL the swaybars I sell) and I have been very impressed with the results.
Very durable and corrosion resistant. Plus easy to clean!

Re: Refurbishing stock wheels..??
At the 10th Anniversary meet someone had stripped and polished their OEM wheels and put a clear powder coat on them. Looked good.
I've had mine painted, but I'm sure powder would be better.

Re: Refurbishing stock wheels..??
powder coated mirror black. I scored - $50 for the set of wheels and $150 for the powder coat. They're like new.
