Congratulations! Ain't it great to be back in the seat of an SVX?! And, if I may add, at that price, you got off easy.

However, if money was no object and trannies were free, would be interesting to see precisely how fast it could get from 0-100kph....I know that when they set the 0-100kph times for the GTR R32, they were practically blowing the diffs and transmissions apart - hence 'real world' 0-100kph cf official ratings....lately, they have become a lot more acheiveable however James

I really think our chocolate trannies would not take that kind of a pasting. [Or should that be licking?? ]
On the other hand, I have heard that big fuel dragsters and such with thousands of horsepower use automatics. So it must be possible to beef them up for a right pounding. If I ever get the bread and time to do a blower upgrade, and I am thinking 350 hp would be nice without major chassis redesign, then I would get a beefed up tranny done by Level 10. They are prepared to guarantee horsepower capability. However, if I go to that expense, then I would be dumping our 4Eat [as in Eats money!!!] in favour of a newer 5speed auto out of the new Legacy 3.0 Outback, which has no Bloody Brake Band!! That, I feel, would transform the SVX into a fast Grand Tourer, rather than "just" an exceptionally capable and comfortable one. Joe

Blown SVX.
If the SVX motor was blown, the auto would be the only transmission that would live with it. It's not only the gear box that that has to take the torque, it has to have a clutch that can connect that torque. How strong is your left leg?.
Sure it would do away with the brake band, that is ignored and not adjusted, even when it shows signs of slipping. Do you think this attitude would change, when the clutch needs adjusting and starts to slip. Or would the same lack of attention see it keep slipping till it is toasted like the brake band. Sure the early models had trouble with the faking clutch facings. But how many do we hear of, that have the need of a band adjustment, but are just driven on, till it burns up, to destroy the box. Then they condemn the auto transmission.. Harvey.
