Found! Starting prob. & Engine vibe.

I found the prob with my SVX occasionally not starting, and maybe someone elses. The prob I was having seemed like the starter was bad , it sounded like it would click but would not start. I checked it the other night and found out I had a voltage drop to the starter selonid wire and traced it to the starter interupter relay. It's a basic Bosh relay bolted to the steering collum, it's deactivated by the security system so the car can't be started. Anyway I got a new one from NAPA and it starts right up every time now.

I also noticed a strange engine vibration after installing my STI tranny mount. A few weeks ago there was a thread that got on the subject of oil level. A few of us where putting like 7Qts in the car to get it to read full on the stick, and was then informed that the SVX should only have about 5 1/2 Qts in it. Anyway I changed my oil the other night and only put in the specified 5 1/2Qts and it seems to have solved my strange vibration. Doh!


Now if I could just figure out that low RPM hesitation?

BTW. I adjusted my TPS to read .50volts at closed throttle, but now it idles at like 1,100 RPMS. Will this correct it's self after a little wile?

Thanks for posting that. I have had the same problem. The past owner had installed a Viper alarm in the car, and it will not start all of the time. I will try replacing the relay. Do you have the part number for the relay? Thanks

my car sometimes hesitates for a second down low, i was just about to check the TPS, it seems to only do it when the car is cold. Let me know what you find out.
What did 5 1/2 qts read on the stick?

My car didn't have any aftermarket alarm so you might still have a prob, but the relay is easy and cheap enough to replace. Kinda pisses me off I took so long to stick my head under there and find out why it was doing it. I don't have the part number right now but I just gave the Bosh number to NAPA and they crossed it to one of theres that they had in stock, the only differance is there is no tab to bolt it back to the coulum. Would someone please tell me how to spell colume?

Adjusting the TPS seems to only make the car idle at 1,250 to 1,500 RPM's, it did nothing for my hesitation. My car does it all the time even when it's warm, and it's not a big deal when you have an auto but as I'm sure you know it sucks when you have a 5speed. It seems to be getting worse so I should be able to trace it down soon I hope.

The oil reads right at the low mark with 5 1/2Qts, right at the full mark when it's hot, but see below.

Damn it, your right. Thanks for correcting that, I knew it was less than I was using so I checked the Mitchell at work and it said 5.3Qt's. I never really did trust that Mitchell, but it did read right at the low mark when cold and right at the high mark when hot so I thought it was good, besides it dosn't loose any oil between chances.
