Re: WTB: rust free rear quarter panels

I have the rear quarter panel on the passenger side. No rust, color is polo green, from a 96 LSi. I also have the passenger side door, trunk lid, fender, and etc....lights, leather seats grey no crack....extra wheels.

Let me know if anything you need I might have.

Re: WTB: rust free rear quarter panels

Has anyone done this repair? Is it more difficult with used parts vs new? The bodyshop is giving me pushback on used parts.

I will let you know though if I don't get it sold.
If I am going to NYC, there's possibly I could fold down
the back seat and put it in my trunk and drop it off,
if you are still looking........(think of going NYC in two
or three months time)

I had my buddy did the driver's side rear quarter panel replacement
for me. He also did the front fender and driver side door for me. The
latter two are easy. If he knows what he is doing, that should not be
too much problem.

The used part would need more attention when cutting out your
current fender on the car, make sure you have enough room to weld
the used part in. If he knows what he is doing, it will take a little
more skill and time. After you weld it in, if you job is decent, and
sand it and put primer on it, after a paint job, you can't really tell
much difference. And, mine feels solid too.

When I was shopping for fixing mine, half of the bodyshops I talked to
prefer to use new, but half of them didn't care.

Re: WTB: rust free rear quarter panels

I'm debating whether I should buy a new SVX that doesn't have rust or if I should get the work done. It would be about the same cost.

Sean, if you bought that silver out in Nevada, you should just swap your entire drivetrain if yours is better, just the tranny. Then you would have a parts car or just sell yours. Finding a good body man is like finding a good barber I dont know, thats an awful big job for someone to undertake. Good Luck!

How bad do your rusts look on both side of your quarter panels? Any pictures? How is your SVX overall conditions?

The passenger side is bubbling noticably, the drivers side looks better because it had a insurance repair last year after someone hit me in a parking lot. As you can probably tell bolth sides have had past rust repairs that have not held up. I don't have a garage that is usable so it is outside 365 days a year, I'm sure that speeds up.

Mechanically the car is very sound, the only issue being the shifter doesn't sit in reverse properly, you have to put it in reverse then push the shifter forward to fully engage that gear. Also has some oil seeping out around the bottom of the drivers side valve cover gaskets.

The roof is cloudy and the hood is starting to look a bit worn so I also want to have to those repainted. All in all it would be about $4000 to restore it. I am considering having the shop replace only the passenger quarter this year and then doing the drivers next year... or I might put that money into a rust free SVX and try to sell this one.

Re: WTB: rust free rear quarter panels

Do you know duct tape? You can silver-paint it and make sure color match if they become worse! J/k.

I think they might last for a year or more. You never know.

You should do both sides together if you gonna do it.

I hope you can find a best solution for yourself.

Re: WTB: rust free rear quarter panels

Guys, out of curiosity, how much would it cost to get those two sides done in the US?
By done, I mean scraping the paint, cutting away the rusty areas and professionally patching them, then painting both quarter panels? Do you do this over there?

BTW, I was never been a fan of replacing rear quarters, even though you can align them perfectly, dunno.. you just feel like your child has been sexually molested or smthg.

On my 2001 2.5RS to have the rear quarter panels done as you described was $800 per side, so $1,600.
