time for 4.44 swap

My transmission failed on me going to work. Had to bring her home in 3rd gear (35 miles). Now 3rd is going too. Only problem is now I have to drive my truck to work. I just bought a 94 legacy turbo that is in great shape mechanically but I decided to paint it before I licensed it thinking the SVX would be fine. So I have both cars down. Being close to Christmas don't have a lot of time to work on it and don't want to leave the turbo outside because a lot of it doesn't have paint on it. Hopefully before Christmas it will be back on the road again.

Don't panic. First try bto provide exact details including the the full history and all symptoms involved, all may not be lost. Whatever you do, investigate further before a repair shop tells you that the transmission is beyond fixing. They will be looking for easy money.

The factory manual clearly advises when checking transmission faults, to first ensure that the line pressure is normal. This is a simple procedure but requires a pressure gauge and connector which any good shop should have available.

Low line pressure can be due to a worn solenoid valve "A" which can be an expected fault as this valve operates continually at 50 times per second and whenever the car is in use. Replacement of this valve does not require the transmission to be removed and will not break the bank.

This should be a routine replacement at around 75k miles. A blockage can cause the problem.

Re: time for 4.44 swap

Already in the middle of the swap. I would like the 4.44 anyway, make it a little faster off the line. I had all the parts already. The only problem is getting the car into the garage to work on it. I have the other transmission ready to go now I need to get the ring and pinion changed out on the svx rear end. Problem I have is that I don't want to leave my turbo wagon outside overnight and swapping cars around is a pain in the a$$. This weekend is supposed to rain so I don't want the turbo wagon out in it with no paint on part of it. Hopefully have it done before Christmas.

Why not swap the SVX viscous unit into the 4.444 rear end? Much less hassle... no need to touch the pinion depth.
