SVX vs Evo 8 weight distribution...
So, the Evo 8 and the WRX both have the same 60/40 weight distribution as the SVX. I imagine the 2004 WRX STi has a similar weight distribution also. I'm getting the impression that most AWD cars have this weight distribution. Why do people bag on the SVX weight distribution so much?

the TOTAL weight is what hurts - SVX outweighs 'em both.

The torque split in the USA SVXi is 90/10 front rear. On slippery surfaces it can go to 50/50.
I think the Euro & Asian models are different. I think they are 50/50 normally and I do not know what the split goes to on slippery surfaces. Don't hold me to this because I do not have it in front of me.

I think they change it to 50/50 when the car accelerates too, right?

As per SOA Engineering: all 4EATs except VTD equipped models have an intial split of 80/20 with up to 50/50 split when needed. This includes European and Asian models.
The overall weight of the SVX is the issue people bring up, not the weight distribution, IIRC. -mike |

Well... the SVX has VTD... doesnt it?
I thought that ment variable torque distribution. The torque does vary in distribution does it not? Mike |

The 4EAT in the SVX is similar in design to the other 4EATs in the subies. The B11s has a 5EAT with VTD with a 35/65 torque split rear bias. Yum Yum -mike |

I recall seeing an ad for the SVX where they really promoted that it had VTD... Did the SVX's in japan have VTD?

VTD did not come out until '01. They might have said it had variable torque, which is true, but it didn't have the VTD system.

Yes under acceleration the rear wheels have more "grip" so the power is shifted back. The TCU learns all this and adapts itself to situations moving power front to rear as needed.
