Don't thank me. It was shamelessly stolen off the alt.autos.subaru newsgroup.

It's not difficult to remove the O2 sensor even without the tool. I just use an open socket wrench.

If you get the universal sensors, usually they'll come with the proper bits to splice/crimp. I would make sure it's waterproof, so shrink tubing would be ideal if you were doing a solder job.

Thanks Vkykam,

I disconnected the battery, and my codes are clear.
Hopefully my O2 replacement and TB service will improve the mileage problems I was having (Only 9MPG!).
I have already noticed better acceleration (no hesitation off the line).
BTW-I used a 7/8 box end wrench to remove my original O2 sensor, and it came off easily without even using liquid wrench.

My OEM sensor (approx $140 US) came with thread anti-seize already applied.

9MPG!?!? Ouch.

From my experience, at its worst in Toronto traffic:

Malfunctioning O2 Sensor: 15MPG City
Malfunctioning MAF: 16MPG
Failed Solenoid C (constant 50/50 lock): 12.5MPG

I'd definitely watch the MPG. If it doesn't come back up to at least 15MPG (assuming you don't drive it 3 miles a trip every time), I'd look for other causes.

Question QUE PASA!!????

I don`t know that is happening with my car, the "BASURU" (lovely name) . It doesn`t run fast and It "eat" a lot of gas!. I replace sparks (Bosch+4), filter (K&N), Oil (synthetic), clean the injectors, check the compression (200 psi in 4 cylinders and 170 in the other two), new gas filter, I check the coils (all are OK), clean the TPS, Exhaust system is OK (Is aftermarket), Replace vacuum hoses, gas pressure regulator .....
The ECU doesn`t "say" nothing , but do you thing th O2 Sensors would be the problem???
Ayudenme por favor!!!!!
BTW, I need a new windshield!!!

Okay, that does it. Looks like I'm gonna have to break down and replace my seonsor with the ones I bought three months ago.

I down loaded the instructions from the link you posted. It doesn't say anything about soldering the connection. Any one have any input?

SVX_My_Baby,

I think the ones Aredubjay bought from Oxygensensors.com came with the splice instructions. I don't have any, as I caved in and bought Bo$ch plugs at $125CDN a piece, after oxygensensors.com didn't respond to my e-mails. That was over a year ago, but Aredubjay obviously had better luck than I did in ordering it from them.

Soldering is optional. The universals that I bought have the butt connectors that have a solder hole. So, I could crimp only, or crimp and solder. It's just a matter of how anal you are about your connection. Crimp, solder, shrinkwrap -- for the most anal.

I used to get 23 in mixed driving, before I put on the bra. Now I get 22 (although most of my drive is winding country roads, with about three miles of highway and two miles of stop and go). I'm just anxious to see how my mileage increases after changing the sensors. I'm guessing I'll get 30 MPG mixed and 50 on the highway.

Yes, it has all the instructions and even comes with a small tube of anti-seize for each sensor. As stated above, it's your call, whether or not you want to solder. Thing is, it's best to solder on the car, if you use the spliceable version, since it's a bad idea to disconnect the connector for this purpose. Best just to snip the wires as close to the sensor as you can, then, remove it. Install your new one and then, do the splicing.

Interesting that you had trouble, Victor. Of course, I didn't e-mail them, I just filled out their online order form and, in two days, I had my sensors.
