No problem, Mike. To me, most cars are just that - cars. My Justy is just a car. My wife's Legacy is just a car. The SVX, in my mind, gets the special distinction of being something way more than just another car. The people who designed it, built it and refined it put their hearts and souls into the SVX. I've said it before and I'll say it now - that was evident in the faces of the people we met at SIA last summer.

I wouldn't 'update' their work more than I'd 'update' any other piece of art.

I feel the exact way you do. The SVX is not just a car. The reactions, and expressions by the two engineers present at the SIA lunch were fantastic. I loved seeing the sincere smiles on their faces in response to our standing ovation. When you sit in the SVX you can feel the love and pride that was put into its design and assembly.

Mike - what about your lip spoilers, 17" wheels, gauge pods, drop springs, HID conversion...... what else?

Sorry, I feel like being devil's advocate today!

21th century SVX?

Hi folks

There will never be any car like our SVX. The SVX is a uniqe car.

Subaru will sure bring a new coupé on the market, but they don't can give the name SVX.

On the official website of the motorshow in Geneva it's write now, that they will show the concept car coupé. The concept car will show the future style of SUBARU.

We will go (subaruclub.ch) next weekend to the motorshow. I will post the pictures of the concept car.

Greetings

Kusi

Nick,

You said a mouthful there. Would have loved to be at the meet and talk to those fellows. The SVX remains very close to the original design study, and as such, retains more "soul" and art-form than most mass produced cars, which suffer from marketing committees.

I find there are other cars which retain this almost sculpture like art element. One I love is the recent Alfa Zagato SZ, very purist and aggressive in style with very limited ground clearance for the real world.

Another Alfa I would regard as a spiritual predecessor of the SVX is the GTV 1750 and 2000 coupes of the 70s. Rear drive only, but a compact and purposeful coupe, with lines that still show restrained elegance.

Yep, if it wasn't raining right now, I would go out and polish up my masterpiece.

Joe

Hi Kusi

Good to hear from you. Post up any interesting pics you get, we will all wait till you get the goods.

Is there a website? If so, could you post a link??

Thanks

Joe

Mike... Nick....

I'm with you guys! What ever the future may hold for Subaru coupes has very little bearing hahahahha he said bearing...... on my choice of car. I like the SVX for what it is and what it was when it came out 10 years before most any comparable car. I'm a bit of a purest about mine and what you do to your's is up to you and your conscience.

We will know in less than a week what Subaru has in store for us in the future.

I sure hope the GM influence is kept to an absolute minimum.

If we did not like the SVX and think of it as more than just a great car full of soul and artfully designed, than we wouldn't own 3 of them. I guess this is the way that owner's felt about Healy's.

Crappy design and all... so although I love SVXes to death, there has to be a limit. You all know I love SVXes. Why would I get 3 of them one after another when I had a chance to get something else. If I had the money, I'd go get another tomorrow as a little present for myself.

I never (in a million years) thought I'd say this - but - Lwin said something dumb! (Okay, just my opinion, but sheesh, don't trash a good old just because of a bad new.)

Anyway, I disagree, Lwin. Regardless of what has come after the SVX, I love mine for what it is and not how well it compares to something built ten years later.

Update the interior? The SVX's is beautiful the way it is. Just because it doesn't have certain design cues that make you think 'new' doesn't mean squat. It was remarkable for the time and mine is still a joy to sit in every time.
(Ayn would be proud of you, Nick.) Who shrugged? Did somebody shrug? I thought maybe somebody shrugged.
