I'd never accuse you of that

I never realized how much controversy a $25 car would cause.

The car was free. It cost $25 to license it.

I have 75 days to get it inspected. It will have finished its automotive life and be in the crusher within 30 days

Don't you dare crush that thing, Doug!

I'll give you $200.00 for it, assuming it hasn't thrown a rod, or any other critical piece of metal or plastic.
I've known several people who have gotten over 200K on a 2.2. I got over 230K on my Mopar turbo, & it's still crankin' at over 300K. Snicker all you want. Those cars get my respect as a vehicle that may have been designed as a throw-away, but just keep on tickin'.
The Omni GLH is still on my all time "Cheap thrills" list.

Ron.

I understand that list could run from Ellicott to Sacramento and back again.

Hmmm... THE AMAZING PSYCHIC RANDY!!! My daughter just, (three weeks ago) drove another indestructible car ('91 Escort) from Ellicott City to Sacramento, where she started a new job. I'm not making this up!

Ron, (Dave Barry wannabe).

Horizontal LOFLMAO

Hey Doug

Ignore the Phillistines. Those cars were called Talbot Horizons over here. I had two of them in the 80s, a 1.3 petrol and a 1.9 diesel. Ran both to 125K plus with great comfort and reliability.

By coincidence[to the SVX] both cars tended to do in wheel bearings regularly.

My Matra Murena has the same front suspension. Is your one torsion bar??

Joe

Nope, all the 80 and up L bodies over here are McPherson Strut suspension. I heard that some 79-80s had torsion bars, but I never saw one in real life to confirm and none of the service manuals talked about them.

You're just jealous because you're not man enough to drive one. Perhaps the SVX is your method of disguising your own inadequacies???

Well we had torsions in the front, coils in the back. Was a mixed blessing. Suspension was compliant and long travel as a bonus, so you could drive really hard over bumpy roads without upsetting the car. As a minus, the torsions tired and sagged on the diesel particularly because of the weight, but they could be cranked up to compensate.

Actually in the Murena, [pics in locker] the torsions can be viewed as a bonus. The owner can choose to have the front ride height cranked down, makes the car very low to the road, and circuit racerish.
Performance wise McPhersons are better. It is not possible to "harden" the suspension signifigantly with the torsions, there are not many hard dampers available. Too hard with a soft spring upsets the spring/damper ratio anyway. Some people have converted to struts for that very reason.
