Most of the flame wars I have experienced here, and on Yahoo! were the direct result of what I would term verbal aggression. Generally these came in riposte form, someone reacting [over-reacting!] to a perceived blot on their veracity, knowledge, experience, age, dog, cat, car........., it goes on.

People who over-react like that are insecure and way too precious. Bad news firing personal vitriolic comment at people over the ether. The bottom line for me is it is very bad manners. It shows a distinct lack of respect for the other people using the forum.

Thankfully there is a lot less of it on this site.

The people using this site are very positive and inclusive in nature, with only the odd bad-tempered lapse. When I say people I mean men & women, boys & girls, young & old, a good mix.

Keep up the good work, good humour and good manners. It costs very little to be civil and helpful.

good observations. it really does seem to be a result of people taking things too personally. get a thicker skin folks- i don't get too upset over some text on the screen in front of me - relax and treat each other with respect and everything will be fine. also, it helps to realize that your opinion is not the RIGHT one, its just yours. they're like as****es, everyone has one.

Moderating is one thing, but deleting a member's post is not needed, atleast around here. So why not have a trash forum where threads deemed unfit can be moved.

My concern with this approach is that we'll just become one more victim of caving into the "dumb-down" method of entertainment. Do I really want visit this site because it now offers a Jerry Springer hair pulling forum? I know, you can cover your eyes, but it always leads to sophmoric gawking & commentary. Not that I would ever sink so low as to view such pandering, heh-heh. Seriously - why stoop to smell the garbage? If flaming is the only way to settle a score, then do a PM. I hear enough ravings of maniacs outside of this site. Keep the riff-raff outta my bar, thank you.

Some other forums i frequent have a "garbage" forum called "The Jungle" It's a forum with one almost non-existant mod, and anything goes...except porno.

If anyone puts anything flameish/derogatory in the normal forum, that thread gets moved to The Jungle...and mostly forgotten about. It actually works most of the time.
