Stop selling so cheap

Hello

I know Earl will be upset as this comment could cost him...

I find it odd that some of these cars sell for so cheap. I guess its because I don't look at the SVX as just a used car but rather a collectable. I don't understand how one can sell theirs for prices below 2K.

I am not the only one that thinks this.

This is a portion of what's written on "wikipedia" at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_SVX

Quote"
During the early 2000's, prices have stabilized, and it has become one of the more popular cars to collect from the 1990s, especially among Subarus. Many well-preserved and maintained examples are still on the road today and available at a fraction of their original price, and the SVX is widely believed to become a collectible.
End Quote"

So keep your SVX's

Now Earl already knows this hence his growing collection.

I can just picture it now. 20 years into the future. Classified ads on the digital paper, all read "SVX for sale by Earl....."

Regards

Max

Unfortunately demand for these cars is also low, and the average buyer these days will not pay very much for them. It's a sad truth. We, as a community, haven't helped much either. There have been many cases where someone has tried to sell an SVX, only to be told their asking price is outrageous, by another SVX owner.

On an up note, I think I've seen a trend in recent months for Ebay-d SVXii to be in more demand and sell for more. The number of bids has increased, and there have been several instances of cars hitting over $5,000. (Although i'm not sure all of those were real bids)

I've discused this with a local SVX owner, and we agree that the value of an SVX has basically hit bottom. Hopefully it will rebound in time, but I don't see these cars having much value to the uneducated (those who haven't driven one) for a few years.

I have to disagree on some level. I don't think the SVX, while I love mine and its rarity, deserves to get exorbitant prices for being rare. I don't think a car with 100k +on it and 10+ years old deserves 5 grand for the car. I love my SVX dearly, but the fact is that some people have come on here and asked way way too much for their car and have been told that. The SVX has not hit "collector status" yet because, in my opinion, it's too young. Maybe in another 5 or 10 years, I will agree that it is a collectors item and ones in good condition can fetch higher prices. However, for a car with 120k on it, 5 grand is just simply too much to pay.

Just for the record, I think many of these go for very cheap. I have purchased a few of mine for a fraction of the price and then repaired them so they could go back on the road again. I don't want to see any more than possible scrapped and taken out of service. I have seen the price start to increase over the last year. The ones with many miles and in marginal shape will still go for less, but I think they have bottomed out in price and on the increase now.

i am unfortunatly one who will sell my car for cheap.
mainly bacause i saw one on the road about five years ago, and said im going to have one of those one day. so i searched for a while and found one. luckily i could afford it and know im in love.
now that i can afford to buy one with a five speed and work allready done.
i would like some other broke ass individual to have mine. so they can fall in love too.
Svx people seem to like svx's for the cars and not their value, and not how much other people like them. if we did we'd get a lexus es400 or something.

and their are plenty of cars just as rare from the early 90's that are in the same price range. I may not think there as cool but other people do.

Sell Mine?

Why would I sell mine? I have not even received it yet. I just feel that they seem cheap for this kind of car. Even if it involves the educated person to understand what the SVX is along with a specific buyer, being how both would be educated and understand what the cars true meaning and rarity is, I would have thought that they would command higher prices. I do see the low miles well maintained examples selling for 10K range meaning that there are people out there that understand the cars potential value but I find it odd that the low mile examples can be 1000 to 1500. Especially after I read comments like, I paid alot, spent alot on a new tranny and radiator plus plus....and now I need the money and need to sell....

I bet that if a SVX was featured in a Fast and Furious movie...the demand and selling price would go up....and so would my lunch.

Many cars haven't really been selling for the price they deserve. There are just some people that can't afford to pay a certain price for a car. After months the seller may become desperate to sell because of bills piling up or whatever. It happens...but remember...

A car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Very true.

Many members here have more than one. I think that is because the love of the car and when they see a good deal they buy one. Some of these cars have problems and because of the love of the car, members are willing to go the extra mile to get them fixed up so they stay on the road. That is why I have purchased some of mine, plus they were a very good deal.

I just sold a 1997 for $18,000.00 and could have gotten more from the buyer.

All of you should post the high prices you sold sold one for. This will increase demand and raise prices.

I still have another red 1997 that another guy has offered $19500.00 for after I told him my previoous one sold for around that much.

See guys.

We can set the market this way.

Basically, what this means is if you sell your for under $10K than you getting screwed so hold on to it and eventually the price will increase.
