You are correct that you generally don't want to pump the brakes if the ABS is functioning, but there are still exceptions.
The system may be derived from aviation, but I don't think the SVX's ABS system is on par with the performance of the big jets. While it does well slowing down from high or medium speeds, on ice or very hard packed snow, the SVX's ABS will lock up once the speed gets down to the low single digits. Normally this is not a problem as the car will come to a stop shortly, but on ice, even 5 MPH can mean the difference between making a turn and curbing the front wheels. KuoH Quote:

Kudos to whomever can tell me which production vehicle was the first sold in the US to have anti lock brakes as an option?
I've never had an issue with the anti lock system on my SVX but I do keep all season tires that are good in snow on it if she plays in the winter. As for driving in ice, there isn't much that'll do decent unless it weighs 20 tons and has steel between the tires and road. When the SVX came out it had a vastly superior set up to 95% of the vehicles sold since it was a 4 channel system instead of the cheaper and more common 3 channel of course though technology moves on but I'll still put my money a 72 Dodge with snows on it and an average driver from the time period in Buffalo and put him against any idiot in a Hummer. There will be no competition!!!

Nikfu....about the speeds im averaging...whatever i say is usually slow....im really going too fast for the road im on so that is definitley something to consider. Coming down the hill yesterday i was really scared just coming down at 10 MPH.....i had cars behind me and was trying not to skid into the car in front. Any time you turned the wheel you felt like the car was going to slide right off the street into the ditch.

Mercedes would like ya to think so but you'd be thinking WRONG then Mike!!! Next hint. It came with an American large displacement v-8 powerplant throughout production (which started and stopped through the 90s under different ownership).

Like I said, Mercedes aren't telling the truth because they have their heads stuck up their exhaust pipes. Think the 60s and British. Oh yeah and to top it off it was also a sister car to the first AWD production car (which by the way was never officially sold here). That's why I said post yours cause I think you'll be wrong. Actually my guess is there is an * somewhere that says 1st electronic abs for the SS mobiles. Kinda like subaru claiming the 1st cvt sold here. Not exactly correct.

Guess everybody is too stumped. Here you go. The first production awd vehicle was the Jensen Interceptor FF. 66-71 I think. It also had standard ABS which was also available on the Interceptor from 67 on and was a option to US Jensen Int. It added something like a grand to the price of the car and there is no proof that even a single one was sold with ABS in the US (however it was and is the first production vehicle sold in the US that has an ABS system as an option over 10 years prior to Mercedes).
