Now would be a good time to get in the habit

of keeping a log of your fuel consumption. (:

I've entered all my reciepts for 2005 and most of the ones for 2004 into a text document for a variety of reasons.
Mostly I just want to keep track of what I spend, and what kind of mileage I get.
As of last month I have been calculating my actual mileage per tank and keeping track of the miles I go between tanks and additives I use. (:

The data from 2003 is pretty much useless but it's nice to know the ppg.

I also have a detailed repair/event log that I created when I got the car, and it's showing I did an emission test in January 05, so if/when I find that document and the odometer reading I can generate an average mpg for the whole year.

Now what I will be doing come the end of December is tracking average temperature and idle time so through 2006 I can have a practical in-depth study of my mileage as it varies by climate, throttle input, fuel additives and other factors. n_n

Fuel rtf

edit: just realized one of the gaps in late 04 was due to it being in the body shop for 6 weeks...

I do the same thing with each car. I also have a spread sheet for each car, modifications, maintenance and things to do. That is the only way I can keep track of them.

You've only spent $600 on gas so far this year? Lucky bastard, I spend nearly $150/month.

What ticks me off is the gas mileage everyone seems to get. I drive like an old man... Wait a minute... I AM an old man. Well.. middle aged anyway.

I never put my foot in it, never agressive, and I have NEVER gotten over 15 mpg. And this is on both a FWD model, and an AWD model. No difference.

I use synthetic oil, replace the airfilter every other change, and keep the car up. WTF??? How come everyone gets better gas mileage than me? And some of you guys are 20 somethings that have an on/off switch rather than a gas pedal.

Ouch Phil!! We get 15 in our '95 Bronco!
Hubby's '88 Ranger gets the same gas mileage in town that Penny gets.... about 21.........and Penny gets much more than that on straight highway driving. Sorry......

bah, what's the point?

i avg. 16-17mpg per the display (avg 16.4mpg over 4,000 miles), but i have fun doing it. you gots to pay to play. it still beats driving a Prius like a little old lady.

fun and getting there quicker > saving a couple bucks

The point? Keeping track of ones finances is just a good practice. (:

Aside from that I am just very curious and enjoy having pages and pages of hard data to look at and fall back on.

So when the next "what kind of mileage do you get" thread pops up I can be like "well I get 17 driving aggressively and 18 driving like an old man, 15 during the winter and 20 something on the highway".

yeah, but are you going to stop driving if your mpg goes down, or gas prices go up?

Hell no.
I would definitely be looking into why my mileage went down though.

the Legacy has a display next to the clock that shows outside temp, elapsed time since car was started, appox miles left in tank, average mpg, or real-time mpg. i'll leave it on real-time mpg, and see how my driving affects gas mileage, then check the average when i get to work, or get home. kinda neat to see how throttle input, tranny mode (normal, Sport, manual), city/highway, etc affects your mpg. if i'm bored i'll try to see how high i can get it (.... or how low. )

i KNOW i wouldn't! highest i saw was 24 or so after a some highway driving. i drive pretty much 98% city stop-n-go traffic. another reason the SVX just wasn't the right car for me anymore - a high speed highway destroyer didn't fit my needs, unfortunately.
