I'll be honest - mechanical is usually 30-50% markup and accessories hover right around 30-35 most of the time. It's really not bad at all compared to alot of other car lines. The profit margin is considerably higher in makers such as Isuzu which we carry or Volvo.
So according to your information on the strut, list is 70% above cost. I've seen much worse. I worked at a boat dealership and Mercury boat motor parts were usually a 100% markup over cost.

When I worked at an aftermarket parts store I routinely saw mark-ups of 70-200%. You may think their parts are inexpensive, but if you only knew how much the company bought them for and the amount of mark-up they had!
