cost of new paint job

Fellers,

I am beginning to shop around for a paint job on the '92 LSL and wondered what everyone else has paid and how happy they have been? Any advice for shopping?

this question has been asked and answered several times on the board - do a search for background info.

Unless you have a friend in the business I think it's mostly a case of you get what you pay for. It isn't the cost of the paint so much as it is the time invested before the color coat goes on.

The gamut runs from:

Cheap = 1 day's total effort to rough it up with some sand paper, tape it off, and shoot cheap paint

Expensive = fix body dings, remove all trim, sand, prime, sand, prime, base coat, clear coat, final sand/polish. $2000 plus.

add time & $$ if you want to change color

True show car quality can easily hit $20,000

Here's a thread I started a short while ago: Cost to re-paint an SVX?

Pick a good color!

Exactly, I paid $2000 for my paint job and that's everything they did. You definitely get what you pay for- i.e. quality

Well, I have a friend that owns a body shop, and he quoted me $3,200. BUT, he has been widely regarded as owning the best body shop in Utah. People send him their cars from WA and CA. He also guarantees his work for life (within certain guidelines.)

I paid $2K for a color change. No one who doesn't know an SVX would be able to tell that the color was changed. And they fixed all the dings (very very minor, including the dings from hitting a deer). But I got a way-low price. Maybe why the shop that did the work is now out of business......
