Look at Etna and the last 2 concept images. You will see.

I'm just highly annoyed because I mentioned this fact a long time ago (that the SVX's exterior was pretty much sorted out already, and Giugiaro came in AFTER it was already decided what it would basically look like) and NOBODY believed me, and a bunch of people got mad at me! So I tried to find it in the Road & Track guide, but someone took it down for more server space. So now, finally, since the guide is up again, I found it and was able to prove it. Giugiaro had a LOT more to do with the interior of the car than the exterior. Anyway... that 'guide' is awesome. Anyone have an extra one?

Hey Cash...

Have you ever read "Catcher in the Rye"?

Just asking, don't get pissed... I'm trying to figure out your point of view.... It seems that you must be right all of the time or you lose control. I've been here quite a while and the ital design thing has come up quite often. A lot of us had read the R&T report along with the sales info on the concept car long before you came along. Your opinion is yours. My opinion is mine... perhaps neither one is perfect. I'll compromise if you will. I'll not call you names if you will not treat the rest of us with disrespect. Back when you made those comments about nobody listening to you about Giugiaro's hand in the design, we heard you. It's just that we read the same thing you did and saw the designs that he had produced before(many more before the SVX) and realized that his hand was very pronounced in the making of our car. Please don't yell at us... or me...

Thank you

Where'd you buy it? Where are these R&T guides? I thinking there must be a stack of them somewhere.

They show up on EBAY once in a while. Rmember, they are R&T Guide not SOA/FHI Guide to the SVX.

Wow! Those are great scans if you ask me. It's hard to balance between size & quality, and I think that whoever did this did a good job, and I know it was a lot of work. So, I withdraw my offer now that I see that it's been done already! :-)

Tell you what I can offer though- it someone wants a PDF or higher-resolution scan of a particular page or photo from the link that you emailed, I'll be glad to do that.

As for borrowing the mag... sure, no problem. Just send me a non-refundable "cash deposit" for $100, and I'll pop it in the mail! :-)

Craig

You apparently missed it when I said 'you're right.'

And I think that he had more to do wit hthe exterior of the car than you think. The 'Guide' doesn't say exactly when Giugiaro stepped in, but it looks to me like he did pretty early on. Looking at their 'early' sketches, you can see a departure from their F9-X and Estremo theme to Giugiaro's wedgy, split-window coupe. Again, look at the Etna and you can see elements which influenced the SVX's final design - penned WAY before Subaru put the SVX to paper.

So I stand by my opinion that, yes, Subaru wanted a coupe and, yes, their styling department was largely responsible for the car's looks. But Giugiaro heavily influenced the design and pushed it in his own direction. The similarities between the Lotus Esprit, the DeLorean and other Giugiaro designs are too numerous to ignore and claim that he had little to do with the SVX's styling.

I also agree that Giugiaro had a great influence. Another good example is the similiarities between the BMW M1 and the SVX. The M1 was styled by Giugiaro and was later transformed into the BMW 850 coupe. Hasn't anyone recognized the similiarities, inside and out, between the 850 and the SVX? I certainly have.

I would really disagree, The M1 was a mid engined 6 cylinder 2 seater that sat about 38 inches high. The 850... well... isn't any of that. That does not detract from the car... It's just not a derivitive of the M1

You are so right Lwin, read their description of the way the Inertia Resonate inlet system works. They had no idea how it works or what it did.
