Woohoo!! Some good news

After staying out way too late on Fri nite I was taking a wee doze on Sat when the phone rang. Not able to remember where the thing was (or who I was either...) I let the machine get it. As the person was leaving his name and number I thought who in the hell is that, that name sounds vaguely familiar. Then it hit me-- I was finally getting a call back from the previous owner of my SVX.

In early Feb, right after I had gotten my ebay purchase home from VA, I had written him a letter asking for any info he had on the car, service performed, that sort of thing. I never heard back from him and figured this guy is probably a little spooked and wondering just how in the hell I got his name and address considering he had traded the car in and has an unlisted number to boot. The car had not been registered again since he traded it in so still had the title with his name and address on it. Would have been screwed otherwise...

Just got off the phone with him. What a wealth of info! Turns out he bought the car in '98 from a guy literally down the street from him. The person he bought it from was a total car fanatic and restored cars for a living. Car had 20K and was totally immaculate. He actually sold his ebony '92 SVX to buy this one, and traded my car on a 2003 BMW 330Xi. A man with excellent taste! Of course he kept all service records and put them in the glove box when he traded the car in. Somewhere between there and here though, everything (original owners manual, service receipts, warranty book, all of it) went missing. Grrrr.

He didn't remember exactly what all had been done but did recall spending $1,800 for the 100K service. Thankfully all work was done at the same dealership in Baltimore; so I guess I'm giving them a call first thing in the morning.

I had always thought that the car must have been properly mainted to still be in such good shape; now finally I might be able to get the paper trail to back that up.

Well, thanks for letting me ramble. I just felt like sharing this with people who might appreciate what a big deal this is.

Michael

What is the guy smoking? Trading in a SVX for a 3 series BMW? If it was a 5 Series or a M3, I can probably understand but...

I am glad to hear that you were able to get in touch with a past owner. Papers always have a way of dissapearing when the car gets to a dealership. They seem to get rid of them. Hope you can find out more good informaiton.

"Seem to"???

When I traded in the wife's last vehicle for her current ride I offered the dealer all the records, they turned me down and said they would throw them away for me if I wanted...that included the original window sticker, model year sales brochure, etc....
