double tapping to the rhythm

I just wanted to publically thank Joe (svxistentialist) for pointing out the double tap method of inducing power mode. I always thought it took one quick, full-throttle jab to induce power mode but in another thread Joe mentioned the 2-tap method and let me tell you it works wonders. Not sure if it's the new tranny or not but I tried it for the first time last night and it works like a charm. It gave me the power mode jump without having the mash the throttle to the floor. Kind of a regulated power mode.

I figured I can't be the only recent buyer of an SVX that wasn't aware of this trick so I'm mentioning it here for other ignoramous' like me to take advantage of it.

Thanks again, Joe!

I acutally use that method of 'running the powermode program' quite a bit. It's fun.

Don't mention it Johnny.

Anything[within reason] that will make these babies shift on quicker, I am in favour of. Glad it works for you.

I still stand by my proven theory(on my car mind you) that its the urgency in which press the pedal not how far, basically its speed sensitive as to how fast you push as opposed to how far...

You are no doubt correct Chris.

What I have always found difficult was the balance between pushing it speedily enough to engage POWER, without at the same time ending up with WOT and a blistering rush for the horizon.

Chris, with my previous tranny it was a matter of how quickly you mash it, not how quickly you goose it. With the double tap it is now a matter of getting it's attention with the brief tap so it knows you want to see some hustle on the next one.

No chance of that, Joe. I still have to feed the beast! Mileage is bad as it is, I don't need it to be worst.

"Feed me now!"

Yep,

My beast is the same. Except the cost of the gas to feed it is about three times your cost!!

Not sure if my method is the same but I just let off the gas and get back on it (not even that hard) and I get power mode. I'm even learning exactly how much to press the gas WITHOUT letting off to get power mode withoug WOT.

Also learned that power mode in MANU doesn't normally happen.

Mutually exclusive

Yeah, David

It's not possible to get POWER mode if MANU is switched on.

Manu is designed to use low revs and high torque to give traction without slippage. Starts always in second, and the transmission map causes quick shifts to higher gears. It's designed to get you out of muddy fields and such, as there is no diff lock.

Power is exactly the opposite map. It goes for lower gears and higher revs to give you access to the high power part of the rev range for quick overtaking. It works in all four forwards, and while engaged, will hold the lower gears for longer.

Manu will also be more economical, lower revs means less fuel burned. It might also be a smoother way to drive in bad stop-start traffic, less shifts, but I never use it this way, as the extra slippage of the torque convertor would heat up the tranny a lot.

Yeah, the reason I said it doesn't "normally" happen is that if the SVX is stock and not tweaked in any way then it will never happen.

People who use MANU and shift into first have just defeated the purpose of MANU in the first place!

I found that my SVX has a "dead spot" at 200kph right after shifting into 4th. I learned that if I put the shifter into 3rd it will not force the shift until 210kph. At that point the car will continue to accelerate in 4th.
